Remembering the Past -- Dreading the Future

I remember after the election in 2000 -- I was, of course, very angry and nervous about what was going to happen. I, along with many, predicted dark times for America.

Still, deep down I hoped he would be a moderate, and that the differences would be manageable until 2004.

Of course, that didn't happen -- he moved right. The old saw about campaigning right and moving center was reversed. What kept me going was the strong belief that The People would not be fooled. After all, a majority voted for Gore. 2004 was coming and that would be that.

After 9/11 and the stupid reaction of The People and The Media I was concerned. But as the days went by, The People (but not The Media) seemed to be coming to their senses.

But if these votes are real, they clearly didn't. (aside -- how are these numbers real, when his approval ratings are so low?)

And this time, I can't even live in hope.
