Australia's Rent-a-Quote PM
A wonderful article from The Guardian last week, reprinted in part
by Alan Ramsey in today's Herald.

"... it is his own lookout if he wants to whip up jingoistic fervor
in his own land to win elections but, in the name of sanity, why is
he so often permitted to ruin a perfectly good day's cricket?"

(snip)

"Heaven knows what day this creature is to pitch up at Lord's, but
you can bet your last brass razoo that he'll be itching to give
those fabled analytical skills a run-out. Mr Howard may be a big
fan and he may be under the impression that nattering about sport on
the airwaves makes up for his deficiencies elsewhere, but in most
instances there are blind wombats with a better feel for what's
happening on the field."

She's got Howard nailed; I'm just mystified as to why there are
still people out there who think he's normal.

I'm just hoping that Scotland Yard will tell him they can't guarantee
his safety, and ban him from going to Lord's. That'll ruin his
little jaunt at our expense.

1. I don't think the little shit got to see any cricket at all.
He was probably going to turn up on day five
to bask in reflected glory.
hahaha

2. I don't know
if I'm more comfortable thinking he's normal or not. Do people vote for him because they think he's representative of them or because he's not? Scary either way.....

His latest jingoism is "perverted ideology". I figure it's filled 10-15% of recent sound bites. It's like Max Headroom without intelligence, good will, or (intentional) humour.

I'm grateful that his interest in cricket lessens the time available for him to stick his grubby fingers into more meaningful issues, can we lock him in a room with looped test matches 24/7 and convince him that Dubya is minding the store?

3. You remember Max Headroom! - one of the very best shows ever.
I'm convinced people vote for their mortgage repayments. As long as
they hold steady, Howard can walk over our liberties and our rights
and they won't care.

He's a grey little man with the mind of a petty bureaucrat - do they
see a reflection of themselves? I suspect they do - how tragic.

And welcome to DU!

:hi:
