Its almost impossible to "avoid" the tory media blitzkrieg, but
in case you have:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,3604,1320244,00.html

Basically, Michael Howard says we should trust him because he lied
and betrayed the public whlst in government, but that he didn't
mean to, and he's changed. Reformed liars can now be trusted! ?

Then he played the 2 string guitar for everyone... one string,
tax cuts, and the other prison-state. Twang twang twang.. same
old tory tune.

... And then, as a chorus, he sang the kilroy-silk anti-EU tune. :-)

1. Nope, I'm afraid they did not
I do, however, find myself admiring the Tony and the Labour Party for scheduling the by-election the Thursday before the Tory conference. It may have been a shameless partisan act but it was an act with plenty red meat. I wonder if their polls showed that the Tories could end up in forth?

2. Well it proved that Michael Howard CAN come out during the day....
I must admit that I was genuinely surprised to find that his family were refugees who escaped the holocaust and that he then grew up in South Wales.......

Managing to become the archetypal upper-middle class tosser that he undoubtedly is must have taken a supreme effort given those circumstances....

To me, the Tories remain confused and hopeless - their messages are mixed and playing purely to the gallery. I don't believe a word of what they say.....but then I don't believe in Labour either.

3. Then came the ghost in a dream
There in the dream, i was invited to meet king blair in an invitation,
where i had to stand there with howard and the other vassals.

I was asked what i would like to say, and i said that the illegal
occupation of iraq must end yesterday before any more people are
killed. This woman "whip" said "yes, yes, we're concerned about
iraq, but do you have any OTHER points to ask the prime minister."

I said, "NO, I don't think you get it. Iraq is substantive, it can
end today, and if not, then is Mr Blair going to send his kids to go
die there... and are you <woman whip>."

At this point, howard was grinning, and the cognitive dissonance of
the stituatin set in. The court then continued as if I had never
mentioned iraq, and it was business as usual. "IRAQ is a crime!"
i shouted, and still, the court of blair stared blankly in to space,
clearly prepared to kill its own, to repress and kill others.

Really, i liked all the people i met in the court, and they were
very polite and considerate. But they did not GET it. King Blair
was not ready in any way, even with my yankee accent, to admit that
iraq is wrong, and that british kids are dying for nothing... all
for fear of falling foul of emperor * and his evil minions across
the atlantic.

Until you politicians GET, that iraq is substantive, and a civil heart
cannot endorse anyone who supports it, period, you will not
understand the tectonic shifts about to happen in the next election.

4. The Tories are liars
They aways have been and always will be. It is their bad luck that in Tony Blair they have run into a master of mendacity who leaves them standing.

5. Unelectable.
Still. With little hope of emerging. They are like Labour was in 1987. Or perhaps even 1982, if you think UKIP is their SDP.

I almost feel sorry for them. It will be so humiliating when the Lib Dems become Her Maj's Opposition in 2005 and they have to sit at the back with all those UKIP MPs who nicked their seats.

6. Yes.. unelectable
To honestly put up an idiot like David Davis, and to suggest any
credibility at all, is the tory illusion. As well, any serious
party wishing to win power, must distance itself from widdecomb.
Unfortunately the tory's can't put up a team of any capability.

Hanging about smoking dope, seems all the torys are good for anymore.
;-)

All the smart ones are invisible, making it even more appearant that
the "REAL" party itself thinks the current leadership unelectable.

In the interests of all things liberal, my message to the tories is:
"Keep up the good work. It's working! You're even more unelectable
now than before."
:-)
