KFC ad draws record number of complaints (UK)
A KFC advert that shows people singing with their mouths full has prompted more than 1,000 angry parents to voice their disgust, making it the UK's most complained about TV commercial.

So far 1,040 people have complained about the commercial, which shows a group of emergency call centre workers singing down the phone while eating their lunches.

Many parents were concerned that the advert encouraged bad manners but the fast food chain refused to drop the campaign, saying it was "meant to be funny".

There you have it - what the British public is really concerned about isn't truth, or innuendo (eg Pot Noodle) - it's table manners. Does a more petty nation exist?

In 1995 a British Safety Council leaflet that promoted safe sex by portraying the Pope in a crash helmet prompted 1,100 complaints.

Damn, I wish I'd seen that one.

1. KFC imports frozen chicken nuggets from China-nuff said
I was warned off KFC chicken nuggets (or whatever those small pieces of chicken are called) by a corporate banker friend who had been reviewing KFC info and learned it imported them from China - and although Bush's FDA can be counted on to minimize inspections of big corporate food processors, I trust my stomach to China's health regs(if any) for exported foods even less.

2. Hit a nerve with the British sensibilities....

...only Prince Harry is allowed to sing with his mouth full, especially when he is totally shit-faced.

As for the Pope in a helmet leaflet promoting safe sex, that actually sounds like a great promotion piece and pretty funny to boot.

9. The thing is, it's not 'sick' in any way
It's not even as if the food is coming out of their mouths. It's just a standard advert - "our food is so delicious, you'll want to eat it as quickly as you can, even if you're trying to talk". Why anyone would think they can complain about it is beyond me.

4. There were loads about the Mr. Kipling ads as well
Speaking as a 'good' Catholic boy, I thought that they were hilarious - though there's no way I'd eat the overprocessed muck that they were advertising.

If you don't like the ad switch over (like I do when that ring-tone ad with the frog comes on - AAH!)

7. Aarrrgh! I HATE that one
and if there is something indicative of the decline of standards in modern Britain, it's that anyone would contemplate paying to have that crap as their ringtone. It makes me go all 'Telegraph-reading-colonel'.

Sigh - you know you're getting old when the shadow chancellor is younger than you are ...

11. Jesus Christ the portrayal of
bad manners on an advert compells people to take action to right the wrong they feel is being perpetrated, yet anything meaningful they'll sit on their WI arses and do nothing or bake some fucking flap jacks.

Save that TV license fee as well.

Who wants to be programmed by what a bunch of wankers at the ministry
of truth want us to focus on.... the latest murder 500 miles away,
the latest paranoia about something stupid.... when with the idiot
box off, a magnificent sunset.
