Kirkbride almost defys belief
Julie Kirkbride is taking the fight for her political future to the doorsteps of her Bromsgrove constituency in the wake of fresh expenses controversy.

Her decision to re-mortgage her second home by £50,000 to fund an extension to it and claim for higher interest payments was in order, she said.

>

Ms Kirkbride's husband - Tory MP for Bracknell Andrew MacKay - has already quit as an aide to Tory leader David Cameron and announced he will be standing down as an MP, after revelations about the couple's second home allowances.

Mr Mackay claimed the second homes allowance on the couple's London flat which Ms Kirkbride declared as her main residence.

Repeat : Mr Mackay claimed the second homes allowance on the couple's London flat which Ms Kirkbride declared as her main residence. Talk about working the system. x(

From the memory the aggregate figure for MP's expenses which was mentioned on the news last night is £93 million of taxpayers money.

Hopefully her constituents will tell her go procreate in polite terms or simply fuck off if not so.

1. Her majority was about 10,000 in 2005
http://politics.guardian.co.uk/hoc/constituency/0,,-770,00.html

She said she needed an extra bedroom so her eight-year old son did not have to share a room with her brother.

Earlier, she had defended the fact that her brother lived there rent-free.

Ah, so what she meant was:

"My brother needed a bedroom where he could stay rent free; so the taxpayers built one for him".

If she tries to stay on, she'll be the Neil Hamilton of the next election. Surely her party will have the sense to kick her out first.

2. It would seem to me
that the rules need to be changed to allow only the rental, not ownership , of suitable London accomodation for those MP's outside of the home counties for whom taxis would cost the taxpayers far less.

This business of switching between primary and second homes to avoid capital gains tax is simply disgusting and they should all now be taxed - backdated and screw any 7 year rules.

I've got Claire Ward who won only by a slim majority last time and is hardly likely to be re-elected if she does stand - Watford will go Lib Dem. That's not such a bad thing given they make an excellent job of running the council.

3. And now she's stood down - as the BBC story has been updated to show
And Margaret "100 miles is still too close for dry rot" Moran has too: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8071441.stm

4. In your enthusiasm, lol,
you might've used the wrong link which refers only to Slapper Moran. I think this is the correct one : http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8070742.stm It's interesting that the Beeb used a particularly unflattering picture of Kirkbride.

Ta for the info - has made my day. In some respects Luton could do far worse than have Esther as their MP.
