... would have a rather different attitude to State Education than your good self, BD.

You're not going to pretend otherwise, are you?

Edited on Wed Apr-15-09 10:59 AM by non sociopath skin
Nothing about either in the Torygraph article you posted.

Surprised you're so coy about your own "profession" BTW, BD. Don't you think folks hereabouts would be very sympathetic?

Edited on Wed Apr-15-09 04:34 PM by Albus
all I sought was a simple yes or no answer to the question...

Do you support the current demands of the National Union of Teachers?

It can't be that hard can it?

What with all those letters after your name & everything.

They aren't my qualifications, Bulldog. That's my work experience. You know, "work" ... the stuff you brag on your site that you "like to watch people doing". Not surprising you're a little coy about your own CV.

Since you ask:
I personally have no problem with the NUT submitting a claim for 10% if that's what their members want. Fat chance they have of getting it. It seems pretty modest compared to the demands of our friends, the Bankers.

I personally have no problem with the NUT asking for one day a week for marking, preparation and administration for all its members. Good employers (including some of those in the private sector) have accepted this for years.

I have no idea what you mean about extra holidays.

You really need to get over this obsession with State Education. It really isn't our fault that you can't squeeze enough out of the tenants in your old man's properties to send your sprogs to Eton.

Maybe you should consider getting a job. They tell me they're recruiting for teachers at the moment ...

15. I don't need a job skin. I have sufficient income for my and my families needs.
If I were to take employment I would just be depriving someone whose need may be greater than mine.

You see.

I'm a man of the people!

18. I was quoting from the Daily Mash spoof piece Sparty, which was in error it seems
Edited on Thu Apr-16-09 06:22 AM by Albus
I apologise for that.

The fact is, of course, that the NUT are not at present demanding additional holiday entitlement for teachers on top of the 13 weeks they currently enjoy.

They are however seeking a 10% or £3000 per year pay rise (whichever is the greater) and so far you have not answered my question as to whether or not you support that.

You have said that you support their right to make the demand (as I do), but not whether you support the 10% demand itself.

Would you care to clear that up?

19. Thanks for the "apology". But why are you labouring this point?
It seems that we both support the right of the NUT to enter into free collective bargaining with their employers on the figure agreed by their membership.

Why does it matter so much what I (or you) think about it?

20. Well, these are discussion boards, the purpose of which is to discuss
Which means we ask each other questions (and sometimes answer them), express our opinions and have them challenged.

It doesn't matter a fig what you or I think really, we're just a couple of plebs and our views will change little.

But it's why we use these boards is it not?

Of course, you don't have to answer the question if you don't want to.

21. The rules say ...
"Democratic Underground is an online community for Democrats and other progressives. Members are expected to be generally supportive of progressive ideals, and to support Democratic candidates for political office."

But you aren't are you? You're a "libertarian" conservative to whom DU's politics is anathema - for example, you make great play on your own website of how much you dislike President Obama - who is playing games by pretending to be otherwise - a flamer, a troll, call it what you will.

So I have no problem in broadcasting the fact and in not wanting to play along.
