Evil Tories to destroy thousands of new jobs at Heathrow

Tories would scrap Heathrow third runway plans, says shadow minister

A future Conservative government 'will simply stop these plans', says Theresa Villiers

A Conservative government will stop a third runway at Heathrow from going ahead, the Tories confirmed today as it emerged that Gordon Brown is set to give BAA the green light to apply for expansion.

Theresa Villiers, the shadow transport secretary, gave a "clear signal" to private contractors considering bidding for the expansion project in the future that a Conservative government will "simply stop these plans".

She told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "If a Conservative government is elected at the next general election there will not be a third runway at Heathrow. There is no chance of the planning process being completed before the date of the next election."

Villiers said the fight to block expansion had just begun. "This announcement does not mean that a third runway is inevitable. It is not just the Conservative party opposing this; there is a huge coalition of opposition. This is just the start of the fight."

.....

Boris Johnson, the Conservative mayor of London, urged Brown to reconsider "even at this late stage".

1. Good.
Must be "stopped clock syndrome" but the result is a win for the planet.

2. Good.
Not sure if Labour have got any marginals out to the west of London but if so they'll lose the seats next time round.

3. Do you actually think it would be good if they lost the seat?
Or was the 'good' because of the environment/global warming?

4. The latter
along with sympathy with those in Sipson and the surrounding area.

Hayes & Harlington has been held by John McDonnell, Labour , since 1997. In fairness to the MP he appears to have founded and led the campaign against the Third Runway and further expansion at Heathrow to protect Harlington, Harmondsworth, Sipson, Longford and Cranford Cross.

There are likely to be huge numbers in disagreement in other geographical areas too particularly those on the flight paths.

5. Yep, as is the case with Stanstead expansion
The difference being that the affected areas out that way are for the most part staunch Tory anyway. Heathrow is much less rural and there are a few marginals out that way.

Mind you, the fact that it's less rural and there's less space over there is more of a reason not to support it in Heathrow's case anyway.
