Barack Obama to visit Watford?
Chicago. Washington, DC. Watford? The town could welcome Barack Obama on his first visit to the UK as the 44th US President, if it is selected as the venue of a G20 summit next spring.

The Grove Hotel, in Chandler's Cross on the outskirts of Watford, has been shortlisted to host the international summit, where 20 world leaders will meet to discuss the global economy on April 30.
>
The Grove previously welcomed 15 world leaders when it hosted the Progressive Governance Summit.

I only knew about this because my daughter, the eyes and ears of the world...lol, told me this morning. Nice place that : http://www.thegrove.co.uk/ Given that its a got a public, but quite expensive, golf course and doubtless the usual accompanying deal on the rates as a result, it will be interesting to see if they shut the course if Obama does infact come visit. The 2006 World Golf Championship was held there.

1. I hope not
When world leaders, particularly the US president, descend on a place, the security becomes ridiculous, and a real nuisance to the locals. I don't live in Watford, but don't see why the people there should have to put up with this. Let the G20 buy an uninhabited island, and create a headquarters in a hollowed-out volcano or something.

2. It's right on the outskirts of Watford
next to the M25, and very close to an old airfield. I expect they can do security there with relatively little disruption to most of the town.

4. As a Londoner, I'm dreading it
Let's look on the bright side: we may all be dead by then!
