So, the important stuff - anybody else watch the new Dr Who?

1. I enjoyed it

The program came over quite fresh even though some of the plot line was stolen from one of the 1960 or 1970's series. Eccleston and Piper were suprisingly good as the central characters My only concern is that 45 minutes is not very long time to develop a story. Still, it is far better that the plot is taken along at a brisk pace rather than being padded out to fill air time. It is certainly a great improvement to the normal dire fare of national quizes, the lottery, bargain hunt, make over shows and other assorted dross that has for too long been churned out by the BBC at weekends. Hope they can keep it up for the whole series.

edit - I just checked on one of the endless Dr Who sites and the killer shop dummy idea has actually been run twice before, once in an episode called SpearHead From Space in 1969 when Jon Pertwee was the Doctor and again in Terror of The Autons. Some of the purists are going to grizzle that the series is not like the old days but I personally found that a bit of a relief. The program has been made purely to entertain a modern audience not to satisfy the nostalgia fetishes of people who have struggled to come to terms with the end of the 1970's.

2. I liked it and I'm eagerly waiting for the next episode

which is set in the future. I am also excited to see the Daleks appear later in the series.

5. Yep, it got a thumbs-up from our house!

Mrs. Nihil & I enjoyed it - thought it kept to the "tradition" of Dr.Who
very well while still bringing it up to date - and so did all of the
little Nihils (boys & girls, young & old).

Was a bit wary of all the pre-broadcast hype but think they did very
well with the casting.

(Hope that "Clive" was only injured and will return in another programme
in the future though ... I know someone just like him!)

I thought it wasn't bad - not an inspiring story, but the acting was fine, and the sets are definitely better than the old series. If they do any 2 part episodes (each is 45 minutes (with no commercials), so about half the length of the typical old 4 part series), they could get something good going.

I think the 45 minutes has been done with a hope of getting it onto American commercial TV (a long shot, I'd have thought). I also noticed they twice used a Routemaster 'step-on-through-the-open-back' bus - hardly ever seen these days, and definitely looking like a tourist London.

10. Thanks, it looks quite atmospheric

I am not sure I like the wires strewn around, though, as they remind me of the Peter Cushing movies, which were abominable. I think the problem might be that I am just too rooted to the Pertwee/Baker era to really enjoy a new Doctor-- but I will certainly give it a try!

Currently I am in the process of watching old episodes on DVD and then watching them again with the commentary on, which I always find fascinating (can you say "anorak"?)

Mark Gatiss did a good job on the script. It had a good tempo from start-to-finish.

than your average contemporary movie. Loved the "Bleak House" quip!
