They have broken the Labor Unions in America
Edited on Tue Apr-20-10 09:07 AM by dotymed
Now they are breaking them in Canada. Unions are one of the very few ways that people can bargain for a fair wage and benefits. This company posted over a 4 billion $$ profit last year. Now they want more of that money to go to management and less to the workers. America stood by and watched, many even cheered the loss of Unions. They did this out of jealousy. Instead of Unionizing their workplaces and raising their standard of living, they wanted to see the "living wage" people come down to their level of poverty. They didn't care that it meant the concentration of wealth in fewer hands, as long as the Union members were brought down to their level.. What a sick bunch. If we stand by and let this happen to Canada, who has been able to sustain their Unions at approximately the same level that America used to have in the 1950's, when people were paid a living wage and could afford to retire... Now America has the largest concentration of wealth in the hands of the fewest people of any "civilized" country in the world. Then we will witness global feudalism in our lifetimes. Let's help the Canadians, then GET OUR UNIONS BACK.

1. They are working on it here too
I work part time at the post office. Everyone loves to complain about high paid posties and their strong unions but the unions are actually quite toothless and have been for some time. Some shifts are 1 hour long, for a total of 5 hours a week. Coffee breaks are 10 minutes... if your shift is long enough to warrant one and that 10 minutes does for a shift of up to 6 hours. We work hard already but Canada Post claims they lost a billion dollars last year so they stopped filling holiday shifts meaning we are really run off our feet. The latest contract is in negotiation and they want to do away with sick time entirely, instead giving the workers 7 days of "personal time". Sick time will be covered by short term disability where you will have to go and get a letter from the doctor and fight with an insurance company if you get sick. All this for $17 - 18 bucks an hour. As I said, some part-timers get as little as 5 hours a week, the union looks at an hour shift as a foot in the door.
