As we speak. Tougher on crime...getting rid of gun registry is a good thing, although police disagree....

2. What's Rahim Jaffer got to say about this?
Did he and Vic discuss this during caucus meetings? How about Mulroney? That report should be coming out soon. Will Vic still want to be tough on crime then?

3. Accountability is not in his vocabulary...
Study after study has shown that crime is down in Canada. Ultimately if you do not get to the root causes of crime; social issues, economic inequalities etc, you will not alleviate crime. You can be tough on crime, but it will cost a HELL of a lot more money dealing with a crime AFTER the fact than it would to prevent itc. It is the same as healthcare, if people are educated and companies are forced to present healthier solutions, it is a much cheaper option than having people sick and ill in those cases that it was essentially self inflicted (due to bad eating habits, lack of exercize etc.). Of course, many people, if not most, become sick due to heriditary issues, but without a doubt, some illnesses are preventable (notice the tough stance taken on trans fats? Not a coincidence).

This is where I explore what I deem to be the immoral and biased methodology of the intelligence community in particular, of which Vic Toews oversees and which I and many others have a bone to pick (myself in particular as I am a persecuted product of their immorality). If you improve society and engage in a process of education, crime will go down, but guess what? So SHOULD theoretically the burden of the taxpayer on intelligence budgets. Is this good business for CSIS or the RCMP? From the standpoint of having a high paying jobs in which you can hide in the shadows, no. Therefore, they plant people, manufacture, become agents of provacation for their own gain, not for the gain of the Canadian people. Not all agents fit this bill, the majority I assume do a great job, but there is a strong percentage that do engage in this. To the average Canadian it is unfathomable to think that our Intelligence communities would act in this manner, but they have and they do. Few politicians have the courage or character to address it, many of them consider it political suicide without much gain. They figure if you are a target it is with good reason...

So instead of actually working to lower crime, and to improve the accountability of the way in which CSIS and the RCMP operates; Vic's solution is to take the age old stance to be "tough on crime" (particularly popular with certain voting demographics). It's a quick and easy solution, and it is a cool buzz term that gains a few votes. I liken the way in which CSIS operates to a great quote I read by Warren Buffett, it went something along these lines, if a sales manager is given a target to increase his sales by 15% to ensure he will obtain his increased budget for the next year, you can be sure that his divison will come in at 15.1%.
