Job hunters prepare for recession's end
With the economy showing early signs of recovery, many are starting to wonder about the route to the employment promised land.

Specifically, what sectors could lead the way?

Alexandra Nicolas, who recently moved to Vancouver from France to manage an adventure tour company geared for French-speaking Europeans, believes a big part of the answer lies in B.C.'s tourism industry.

"I think this is a great place with great scenery and activities," Nicolas said in an interview about her new job with Montreal-based Nanuq Adventure. "It's a great product to market. Most French people now travel to Quebec and Ontario. But with the Olympics, there will be more awareness of Vancouver and that will draw attention to B.C.

"We've already received several requests for both the Olympics and next summer. We hope to get at least 300 people next year."

While the tourism sector is still struggling because of the recession, that's expected to change after the 2010 Olympics, when Vancouver and B.C. get a major push on the world stage.
