Canadian Health Care Minister saying the system is "imploding"
Is my local freep making this up?

Can't get it on google - maybe I have the name of the office wrong. Freep asked to link to comment, guess what? Freep does not do it.

Said minister is supposedly female.

Overhauling health-care system tops agenda at annual meeting of Canada's doctors

By Jennifer Graham (CP) – Aug 15, 2009

SASKATOON — The incoming president of the Canadian Medical Association says this country's health-care system is sick and doctors need to develop a plan to cure it.

Dr. Anne Doig says patients are getting less than optimal care and she adds that physicians from across the country - who will gather in Saskatoon on Sunday for their annual meeting - recognize that changes must be made.

"We all agree that the system is imploding, we all agree that things are more precarious than perhaps Canadians realize," Doing said in an interview with The Canadian Press.

4. Good find! Hmmm, this Dr. Anne Doig is NOT the incoming president....
the President-elect is Dr. Jeffery Turnbull. In reading a bit more, it seems this Dr. Anne Doig is one of the big promoters of privitization of the system and the new President is NOT with her on that.

Here is an interview with the new President:

5. Interesting too that Doig denies wanting an American system
And the doctor who did research on possible improvements went to European countries with national health systems to get ideas. Not to the USA.

Once again, a freeper is caught taking things out of context.

2. It is not true...
I have read nothing of the sort from the Minister or anyone else. The government we have now are neocon wannabes and would love to 'privatize' our health care but they know they can't touch it and not be destroyed as a party. There may well be an election shortly so I can't see the Minister touching this at all.

The Minister of Health is a woman, Ms. Aglukkaq, an Inuit from Nunavut. Her recent comments have been dealing with H1N1 and the shortage of radioisotopes due to the shut down of the Chalk River Nuclear Facility.

She recently spoke to the Canadian Medical Association and deliberately stayed totally away from the subject of universal health care even though some at the conference are pushing for privatization.

6. Ann Doig
Ann Doig is bought and paid for by US health insurance companies. Despite the "imploding" hyperbole, if you look at the context of the speech, what she ends up saying is that a few tweaks are needed. 92% of Canadians would never trade the Canadian single payer system that we have for a US style insurance-run system.

If a politician or political party were stupid enough to propose an American style insurance-run system, they would not simply lose, they would be totally wiped out politically.
