I wonder how the GG is feeling tonight?
Edited on Wed Dec-03-08 10:12 PM by daleo
She is going to be under extreme pressure to cave into the proroguing request. Here's hoping she doesn't give in to some artificial compromise.

Harper just wants 8 weeks to intimidate the opposition. Anything else they say is just smoke. Things could get very ugly if they get their eight week break. Nothing would surprise me.

It was instructive that he sent Prentice to talk to Keith Boag of the CBC backing Harper all the way. The message was "there are no moderates in this party" (Prentice has been mooted as the Conservative peacemaker).

That tells me we can expect anything, up to and including violence and police state tactics.

1. An online poll I saw tonight
offered suggestions on what the GG should or would do. One of the options was 'not answer her phone', and I laughed. That's probably exactly what she feels like doing.

She was on an interesting arts and culture tour, and suddenly she's in deep water swimming with sharks.

2. Another good one I read
"I'll get back to you on this on Tuesday, Steve."

3. Very good!
First time since 1926 this has occurred, and it has to be on her watch!

4. CBC National is pretty well unanimous

They all believe GG will allow the prorogue.

Ugh....do I even bother to attend the rally on Saturday? I feel so deflated already.

5. CBC commentators don't know anything special
They are Harper's employees for now, so I think they are generally pretty careful not to say anything that might get them in hot water. That doesn't mean that they are pro-Harper, but their position does compromise them somewhat.

That being said, Harper has generally managed to get his way with the RCMP and other levers of state power. Perhaps this will be the same, but I hope not.

6. She'll accept the prorogation.
Call me pessimistic, but I think she'll bend to Stevie's will on this.

7. She's probably feeling utter amazement
at how the education system utterly failed to provide some even a basic understanding of how the Canadian parliamentary system works, given some of the mind-numbing emails that must've hit her inbox selectively forwarded to her by staff.

something like 'Dear Madame GG, I can't believe we are throwing our own government...'

Can't blame most people though, I mean how screwed is Harper that you have to look back to the early part of the 20th century to come up with some sort of coalition government precedence for a solution?
