Harper's threats to democracy motivated me to contribute to the Liberal Party
Harper's threat to pull public funding may backfire. Since the Conservatives are trying to destroy the opposition parties via financial domination, I decided we have to fight fire with fire. I suspect my wife will want to donate to the NDP.

Obama out fund-raised the Republicans. Maybe we will have to take a page out of the Americans' playbook.

Using a financial crisis to threaten the financial viability of the opposition demonstrates how little regard he has for the idea of democracy.

1. I will today, as well.
Not only for what Flaherty and Harper just tried to pull, although that's bad enough in itself, but for what they didn't do.

No plan, no idea, no help, and we're back facing a deficit again.

3. It is unfortunate that it comes down to donations
I liked what Chretien did, trying to put parties on a relatively even playing field, via public financing of political parties. But Harper is forcing the issue, and I think when push comes to shove progressives can support their positions financially at least as well as the Conservatives have.

2. Exactly.
I hear a lot of idiots saying that their tax money shouldn't finance parties, not realizing that that same law prevents big companies from outright buying the parties. Fuck, people are stupid.
