May says to vote NDP or Liberal in close ridings
Edited on Sun Oct-12-08 08:39 PM by CHIMO
HALIFAX – Green party voters should consider voting either NDP or Liberal in tight races to avoid a Conservative victory, says Green Leader Elizabeth May.

With just two days until the federal election, May said in an interview on Sunday "there's no question that there are some ridings where you might say to vote green you ought to vote NDP to stop a Conservative from winning, and in some ridings you might want to vote Liberal to stop a Conservative from winning."

But she said she also "profoundly disagrees" with Liberal Leader Stephane Dion's assertion that Green party voters across the country should switch to the Liberals.

May said she only envisions Green supporters switching their votes in tight races, most of them in Central Canada.

1. Don't know how close my riding is....

...but, around here these days, it is always prudent to vote Liberal. To their credit they have David Orchard running in the riding north of mine. He should win.

The sitting Conservative MP retired and handed off the nomination to another of his neo-con flunkies. I hope we're not stupid enough to elect him......

Our NDP candidate is at least competitive thanks to the popularity of Layton. The NDP candidate running against Orchard, puts a large Jack Layton sign next to his own, at important locations. Haven't seen any Dion signs....

4. There Aren't
Any recommendations for Canada. There may be for the seats that have become part of retail politics.

5. eh?

That website provides info and recommendations for people who want to do as Green suggests: vote for the candidate in their riding who has the best chance of beating the Conservative candidate (or it recommends voting "with your heart" where the Conservative plainly has no chance).

I don't understand what

There Aren't
Any recommendations for Canada.

means. Nobody votes "for Canada". Everybody votes for a local candidate. May's advice related to local candidate choice.

May's opinion of the Liberal bogeyman-mongering is the same as mine, evidently.

7. Well
If you are in a riding where the Conservative wins and the second place position is 50% of the winner, there is not much chance of a win.

If there was a candidate that was in every riding, then one at least could feel that their vote counted.
As it is the only result that some have is knowing that their $1.75/year is going to riding.

3. Could Check
For the results in the last election and vote for the second runner. With all else being equal it should be similar.
At least they will receive your $1.75 per year.

They pretty much all say abandon all hope ye who enter here, and vote with your heart because the Conservative will win anyway. ;)

Except for Saskatoon-Humboldt:

You Choose

The Conservatives have pulled ahead and the polling and our model no longer shows it as a swing riding. Vote with your heart. However, please check back closer to election day as this recommendation may change if local inclinations show movement away from the Conservatives.

Well, you can't get much closer to election day than election day, so you're on your own. ;)
