LOUISE ARBOUR DENIED
When Louise Arbour announced recently that she wouldn't seek a second term, she said it was for personal reasons. But the Human Rights Commissioner for the United Nations may not have had the option to stay in her job, even if she wanted to.

That's according to an article in the online publication, The Human Rights Tribune. John Zarocostas wrote it, and he's in Geneva.

Ottawa derailed Arbour
HRT
Louise Arbour 21 March 08 - Relations between Canada’s conservative government and Louise Arbour, a former Canadian Supreme Court Justice, are said to be the reason the High Commissioner decided not to remain in her post for a second term.

John Zarocostas/Human Rights Tribune - The absence of support from the highest levels of the government of Prime Minister Steven Harper torpedoed the chances of for Louise Arbour to get the nod for a second term as UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, diplomatic sources said.

3. Harper Rights Watch
Yep, the clock is ticking on Harper and Co...these Neo(anderthal) Cons would find a way to politicize a bake sale. Even with the almost absurdly colourless and ineffectual Dion at the helm, Harper continues to make the liberals look like the only reasonable alternative. Watch for Ignatieff, Rae, Goodale and others to start saying 'Stephane, it's time to go for it or just plain "go"...your choice, mon ami.'

4. Can't happen to soon for me....
It is time, even past time, imo, that the Opposition pulled the plug on this POS party in power. I am very tired of the "this time we'll bring them down" only to hear shortly after "nooooo, I don't think we will". Get it done and get it over!
