Safety agency orders review of reactor shutdown
OTTAWA–The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. have commissioned a formal review of a contentious reactor shutdown last fall.

AECL's Chalk River, Ont., plant produces most of the world's medical isotopes and the supply shortage caused by November's enforced shutdown threatened critical diagnostic testing and cancer treatments.

Parliament passed emergency legislation ordering the plant to reopen in December and the government subsequently fired the head of the safety commission, Linda Keen.

The joint review will be conducted by Talisman International LLC, a Washington, D.C.-based consulting firm that has evaluated nuclear facilities since the mid-1980s.

Sounds like the "Common Sense Revolution" and Ontario Hydro all over again.
