Wyoming comes from the Dakota "mscheweamiing" meaning "at the big flats" or "large plains."

Wyoming is pretty flat in some areas, like the southwest corner for example. but it's mostly rolling plains and mountains^.^ and sheep, lots and lots of sheep. and antelope^.^

The first time I was in Wyoming was on Amtrak and seeing those darn critters caused a terrible earworm: "Home on the Range." It was stuck in my head for the next 500 miles.

3. the joys of wyoming

actually, Wyoming is a Deleware word meaning "prairie."

i was born and still live in Wyoming. the population is about 500,000 people. that's fewer people than Alaska! it is populated by cowboys, rednecks, bigots, the relgious right, independants, democrats, and every kinda of person imaginable...well, unless they're not white, hispanic, or american indian. the racial diverisity is seriously lacking here.

i think the first thing you notice about Wyoming is the space. the sky seems to go on forever on the prairies. it's very dry here, too. wyoming is gorgraphically catagorized the same as mongolia-an "arid steppe." we've got the red desert and devil's tower, yellowstone, and thermopolis (one of the world's largest hot springs).

it's been pretty nice, we had our first snow last week and the the trees are about 1/3 turned so far. it's been chilly too, but it's going to be back into the 70's for the weekend.

fall here is so gorgeous, i love to go up to casper mountain and take photos of the aspen.


where in wyoming do you hail from and/or reside?

11. Well, that depends.

I grew up in Lyman, went to high school in Green River, and have resided in Laramie since then. So, I usually just say I'm from Laramie, because it's easier. I usually get up to Casper a couple of times per year, when work takes me up that way, and usually make the UW basketball games there in December in the Events Center. Maybe we could grab a beer sometime....hear about Tommy Lee last night?

7. I spent some very nice days in WY last summer

Too bad it was so damn hot, God bless the man who invented air conditioning.

Pulling a trailer, we went from Yellowstone to the Black Hills via Tetons, Togwotee Pass, Lander, Muddy Gap, Independence Rock, and Casper. Lots of pronghorns, interesting pioneer history too. The pioneer trail museum in Casper was a real treat, extremely well done, especially the river crossing simulator.

Here's some Wyoming wildlife, it was digging around in our campsite in Casper.



About an inch long. We learned later that this thing is a wind scorpion, related to the camel spiders in Iraq.

9. I LOVE Wyoming. My husband has been working in the oil

patch (Oregon Basin) for the last 18 months and I have made three trips up there to spend time with him.

The most recent trip was in September, and we spent 4 days in Yellowstone, a day in Grand Teton, went to Thermopolis and also Bozeman Montana and goofed around in the Cody area as well.

It was so wonderful and cool after Texas...it snowed on us in Yellowstone, and we saw lots of bison, elk, deer, and migrating birds.

10. I love western Wyoming

The tetons and the Wind Rivers. I spent a glorious week hiking 40 miles in the Wind Rivers and I have found a better place yet.
