Wild Cat Hunting Plan Dies
Doyle: Plan Makes Wisconsin Laughingstock

POSTED: 4:39 pm CDT May 13, 2005

MANITOWOC, Wis. -- A proposal to let hunters shoot wild cats is dead.

The group that raised the issue decided Friday to let the issue fade away, about a month after Gov. Jim Doyle said the plan was making the state a laughingstock.

The proposed law change would classify wild, free-roaming cats as an unprotected species.

That change would allow licensed hunters to shoot feral cats, which are considered an invasive species that kills songbirds and other wildlife.

9. You tell me.
I think Norman would be a combination of Oreo's coloring and Binky's body-shape.

5. Laughingstock is right.....
My son got a call from a girl he's dating (who is from S. Florida btw) asking him "what the hell is wrong in Wisconsin?" She gave him some flack about "kitty killers" in Wisconsin. He was caught flat-footed because he had been up to his ears in research for his papers and knew nothing about the issue so he called me. After I told him what was going on, he went on a long rant about it. LOL I think he was more upset than usual because it was screwing up his dating.

10. It's not over yet
That will not stop hunters from killing feral cats as well they should when hunting.
http://www.themilwaukeechannel.com/news/4370131/detail.html
At least two upper Midwestern states, South Dakota and Minnesota, have allowed wild cats to be shot for decades, just like skunks or gophers.

Some estimates indicate 2 million wild cats roam Wisconsin. The state says studies show feral cats kill 47 million to 139 million song birds a year. Why is it SO hard to understand that it's NOT your kitty this is all about?
The Congress decided not to recommend the change to the Natural Resources Board later this month -- even though 57 percent of those at the group's spring meetings last month favored it.
This will not end here it will be brought up again.
I know the kitty lovers will not read this but just in case you would like to know http://www.owra.org/cateffect.htm

12. Hunters Pushing This = Hypocrites
I find it a bit ridiculous that they cry about the songbirds that feral cats kill but put forth every law imaginable to hunt mourning doves and give hunters access to shooting the very same birds.

Guess unless it gives the NRA crazies something to use their trigger happy selves to fire weapons at, it is an uncontrollable evil that must be stopped at the end of a bullet.

Hypocrites, as usual.

13. you're right - the idea is out there
so more will shoot cats than in the past.

While I loved my cats, they were indoors only. I would like another but my niece stays with us when she comes to town and she as a terrible allergy to cats. My in-laws let their cats run and it drives me crazy - besides one is nasty so I wouldn't be broken up if someone shot it. I can't be to attached to a cat that scratches and bites. I know that sounds mean but if it bites my kid one more time I told them I will take it to the vet and have it put down. (My son just tried to pet it - not a little toddler trying to maul it)

If cat owners don't want dead cats they need to keep them inside or tied up in the yard.
