2. Start an old Christmas tree fire, didja?
318??!! Yow!!

You know what they say about Wisconsin. If you don't like the weather, stick around a few minutes - it'll change.

3. Define 'Normal'
Today, we have normal weather for Saskatchewan.

Yesterday we had normal weather for Brownsville, TX.

In Wisconsin, you get to experience the thrill of traveling without ever having to leave your home!

Who KNOWS what tomorrow will bring? It's exciting, isn't it? :)

9. Oh, my. Wisconsin is so not normal
Our weather has been so abnormal the past decade that I don't know what normal is anymore.

When I was a kid, we had tons of snow every winter. In the past 18 years, my kids had about two to three winters that even came close to those I grew up with. My mom says we had even more snow when she was growing up in the 40's and 50's.

However, having grown up in this state, I'd have to say this spring has been relatively unusual. We haven't had one like this since 1988 when I was in the middle of my second pregnancy and we were moving to a bigger place closer to Madison. May was cold with an average high around 60. June made up for it with 13 days over 90 and 5 days over 100.

So hold on to your hat, we may have a bit of a wild ride this year.

11. I can say with some assurance that our weather is the exact opposite...
...of San Diego's weather. In fact, I've heard that when Wisconsinites move to San Diego, they often go a bit bonkers because they MISS experiencing all four seasons in one day.

On the bright side, the weather is almost always worse on Mars. Almost always. I remember back in the early 80's we had a day or two where it was -50F (without windchill). I remember hearing at the time that the temperature at the equator of Mars was about 5 degrees warmer. Of course, we have a much thicker atmosphere, so you didn't experience explosive compression by going outside. So at least we have dat going for us, eh?

19. I think that record was set the same weekend I'm thinking of
January, 1982.

Nasty. The electrical cable on my block heater snapped clean off instead of bending when I tried to plug my car in that Sunday morning.

I may be remembering the temperature *with* the windchill, since there was a strong wind, IIRC, but I was in the west central part of the state at the time, and I'm pretty sure it was at least 10-15 degree colder than it was in Milwaukee.

20. Wimpy
spend some time in Eastern North Dakota or Northwest Minnesota. -40 is not uncommon every few years. You almost always get below -30 a couple times a year, sometimes with a good wind.

You'd *think* people would know that by now, and the weather dude wouldn't have to say it 29 times a day, eh? :D

16. But "warmer" near the lake in dead of winter
But truly, the changes make us appreciate the good days more than people in San Diego.

We see a spring day, 75, sunny, grass beginning to get green, trees beginning to bud - it makes you smile

Then a late October day, 75, sunny, beautiful orange, gold, rust colored leaves, a cool breeze, - it makes you smile until you remember it is leading up to the dreaded winter!

14. I just got a call from a former neighbor in Cleveland
80 degrees today, 40's tomorrow.

Something about an arctic polar front.

I'll just sit here and wait for the next hurricane.

Normal?

My dear, that's why we're never bored in Wisconsin.......:hi:

You'll get used to it...and come to appreciate that the weather in Wisconsin is important because:

1: It builds character.
2: It keeps lazy people out of the state because you can't be lazy about shoveling snow.
3: It makes you appreciate the really good weather days....

She's still down in Cincinnati where's it's eighty degrees and I'm up here able to see my breath walking out to the car yesterday. She already thinks we're moving to the frozen tundra.

We're just now getting leaves on the trees.
