Milwaukee Vegetarian Restaurant Recommendation
I am looking for a recommendation for good vegetarian restaurant(s) in Milwaukee--mostly in the downtownish area. Some good middle eastern restaurants with veg options would be great, too. I'm from Oshkosh, so I have been to Milwaukee often and know the downtown area "fairly" well; I just don't know the "little" restaurants which are often the best.

1. Abu's Jerusalem of the Gold on Farwell.
Aladdin middle eastern cuisine downtown is also pretty good.

For Indian, try Bombay Sweets. Delicious, all-veg, and CHEAP!

Beans and Barley is always a good standby on the East Side, at North and Oakland. They also always have one or two chicken/turkey items on the menu, in case there are carnivores like me (mmmm... meat :9) in the party.

But Abu's is the best in town.

3. Oh, a second vote for Abu's!
Abu's is so good, they even teach cooking classes there (or they used to).

Beans and Barley is also good for basic vegetarian fare.

4. Abu's
I read some on-line reviews with menu descriptions. I'm going to have to give that a try. Also Bombay Sweets. Beans and Barley looks like something my kids would like more than the middle eastern fare of the other two.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am bringing a student down there for a national speech tournament in the end of May. She and I are both vegetarians and there isn't much in the Ripon/Oshkosh area, so I thought it would be a good congratulatory treat.

2. Shiraz on North in Wauwatosa has some good veg options
It's Persian, a sister restaurant of the late Sahar...a bit of a trek from downtown, though.

Milwaukee has very few all-veg restaurants; hedges listed what I'm aware of.

Koppa's on Farwell is a deli/grocery store with the best deli sandwiches EVER, including a several vegetarian and one vegan option.

I've heard good things about Vivo Urban Grill (on Ogden) and Roots (on Hubbard) --the latter has a very organic/local focus -- but I've never been to either.

5. Beans and Barley
Not quite downtown, but not to be missed . . .
