Ugh...Wineke's people crashed a Madison DfA meeting...
...and swung the group's planned endorsement for State Party Chair from Rammelt to Wineke.

The thing is -- I like Wineke; he seems to know what to do to get things done, and he looks like he could be a good voice for the party in the media. I like Rammelt; he's a good person, was a big help with the congressional campaign way back when, he works damn hard, has been an activist for a long time,I like him on a personal level. In a way, Wineke's the establishment and Rammelt's the outsider (former lawmaker, very telegenic, vs. scrappy upstart), but in another way, it's exactly the opposite (Rammelt's a county chair and 2nd vice chair of the state party, and has been a party leader for decades) .

Truth be told, I was leaning Wineke. Now...I'm a bit disgusted.

1. You know, I'm beginning to be glad that my local DfA meetup
has decided not to do endorsements for the time being. We'd rather just do work.

2. My only gripe
about Wineke is that he's an "insider"....maybe that means he can get things done but I'm alwys just a bit squirrelly about willingly giving power back to insiders.....

got another mailing from him last week.....

I have to confess to having liked both these candidates. But since a meeting I attended in March, I've suspected that Wineke is a right-leaning DLC type who likes the status quo. He doesn't talk that way and at a meeting of about 20 county chairs and vice chairs, he promised to work hard on all elections all across the state - to in essence be Dean-like. Unfortunately, I don't see sincerity in his eyes when he makes these promises.

Your news only adds to my distrust of him. Crashing a DFA meeting is pretty low and if it's not underhanded, it's definitely desperate. It tickles my conspiracy radar and makes me wonder why Linda Honold's hand-picked successor is working so hard outside traditional party venues to win friends and influence people.

The only ones who can vote for Wineke are delegates to the convention. Delegates don't get elected at DFA meetings, endorsements nor no. This is definitely strange.

6. Aw, shucks

I'm glad I'm not the only one getting that vibe. I swear it's the same feeling I get car shopping, like I'm getting sold something I don't want while I'm being told it's "the best deal around."

5. what part of "grass roots" don't they understand?
Is it the "grass" or the "roots"?

Sometimes I'm glad I'm so far removed from Madison.

9. Wow. Jon Erpenbach just commented on my blog entry on the topic.
He's voting Wineke, for what sounds like pragmatic reasons.

And I'm apparently on Erpenbach's radar screen. Cool.

10. Which leaves me in the same dilemma we discussed several weeks ago.
<LOL>

But congratulations on being "a player" (the Erpenbach thing)!

13. Ed Garvey doesn't care for it either
www.fightingbob.com

Then again -- is Ed still a Democrat, or did he give up?
