Wal-Mart bullies it's way into the town of Sheboygan!
Well Wal-mart got their way.Now there won't be 1 but 2 super wal-marts in Sheboygan. The town had put up major objections including 25 items that wal-mart would have to do to be considered, well long story short, even though there was NO support from the population , the 3 board members ok'd the wal-mart plan and will rezone the land retail, from farm.Paving the way for the 24 hour retail outlet in the middle of a quiet rural area. What can be done now or is it all over?Anybody have any experience in this area?

1. Get the local unions to try to organize non-stop.

3. Can you get an injunction against the ruling?
You could argue that there was not enough consideration of the citizen's wishes.
And who are these 3 board members? Why did they go against the wishes of the people they are there to serve? Did Wal-mart give them some... incentive?

4. That's my first thought major kickbacks.
The reason they give is that if they say no the city will annex and then they will have no control.I don't know if that is true the city has tried to annex for years without success,so what's the difference this time.

5. Be sure to keep records
and hang these three sell-outs to dry once the community sees the effect.

6. Congratulations
you're on your way to our situation...8 WalMarts within a 15 mile radius; 5 of them supercenters.

And a Sam's Club.

8. Charleston, SC
and environs are only about 3 times that size and you see what they've done here.

We have NO independent hardware stores any more and very little locally owned business of any kind. The walmartization of this area has opened it up for the big box everything. Meaning that we no longer have a choice in anything.

Including our tax situation. A half-cent increase in sales tax got steamrolled through last fall supposedly for bus service and green space and repairs to bridges. After it passed we found that it's actually going for the new roads into the new Wal-marts and maintaining their parking lots and security.

Control of the economy is control of the country.
