TABOR to be introduced on Tax Day, April 15
MADISON – The Lasee-Wood Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR) will be closed to co-sponsorship and introduced in the state Assembly on Tax Day 2005 – April 15.

“There’s no better time to introduce constitutional tax reform than on the day the taxpayers feel the bite the most,” said Rep. Frank Lasee (R-Bellevue), principal author of TABOR. “That’s the day when taxpayers wish the most that they had more power over their own tax bills. TABOR will give them that power.”

The Lasee-Wood Taxpayer Bill of Rights is a constitutional amendment, which will give voters the power to decide how much their government can take from them in taxes.

“Our government will have to ask us, before they reach deeper into our pockets,” Lasee said. Lasee said the current budget debate is a perfect example of government out of control. “The fiscal bureau says tax revenues will grow by 9.6% over the next two years,” Lasee said. “That’s just natural growth in revenue, with no tax or fee increases. Nearly 10% in two years. Governor Doyle’s budget spends that increase, then spends over $800 million he’s raiding from other funds, then spends over a billion dollars in borrowing on top of that,” Lasee said. “He’s starting with a $1.6 billion deficit, and he’ll leave a $1.8 billion deficit, if he gets his way,” Lasee said, “and it’s not at all clear that the legislature is going to stop him. Our side might just go right along with it. No wonder the taxpayers are fed up. This is business as usual in Madison.”

Lasee noted that there is plenty of time for TABOR supporters to call their legislators and tell them to sign on.

4. Why are they so hyped up over something that
would eventually blow up in their face? They don't really want it to pass do they? They want Doyle to keep vetoing it so they can use it as a campaign issue.Have I got that right?

7. Here are a few in addition to those already shared
http://www.wisdc.org/taborcontributions.html The Wisconsin Democracy Campaign details how special interests with a stake in the outcome of the debate over a proposed constitutional amendment to restrict state and local government spending dubbed the "Taxpayer Bill of Rights" have showered over $6.5 million in campaign contributions on current members of the Legislature since 1993.

A few places to watch for news or to search for additional information might include:

http://www.highroadnow.org (I particularly recommend this site for information)

Moody's report a red flag on TABOR A guest comment by Jack Norman at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal

At a forum on TABOR in Clark County, the Americans for Prosperity were there in support of it and handed out a very expensive "handbook" on their perspective. If you want to see what the nutjob opposition is saying, you can check them out at http://americansforprosperity.org

Rep. Frank Lasee (R), (see original post)supposedly has more info, from his perspective available at his website http://www.franklasee.net

These are the sites I've collected over the last year. Some of the media links may no longer be active but I would think a search of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal and Capital Time websites would result in a few TABOR related articles as well. So far, both papers seem to stand in opposition to it.
