Affiliate the 2 year campus with the closetst four year program, move all student services to that 4 year school and only allow transfers to the affiliated four year school?

WTF? Why? Our current guaranteed transfer system does not need reform. It's fine the way it is. Why fix dopmething that is not broken?

4. It's true
Been in the news for quite some time now here in Waukesha.

The County Exec Dan Finley wants to sell UW-Waukesha to the state for $1, the state would make it UWM-West.

Some people feel two years schools are just a duplication of services. I disagree, I think they play a role in developing people for the technical services.

5. Sounds like your describing the Technical College system - not the same
The 2-year campuses are a local extension of the 4-year system. Students can attend the 2-year, earn an Associates Degree and transfer to the 4-year campuses at any time. Of course it is a duplication of services. That is their purpose!

The 2-year campuses are important in so many ways. There are large parts of this state nowhere near a 4-year campus for starters. And those who cannot afford to dish out the full cost of room and board can at least save some money by attending a nearby two year campus for a year or two.

Returning and non-traditional students use the 2-year system because it allows them to remain at home, keep their jobs and attend classes. As a non-traditional, I don't think I could have gone back to college had there not been a two-year campus nearby. I only had the time and money to start out part-time. Driving to the nearest 4-year campus for the 6.5 years it took me to complete my degree would not have been do-able in terms of money for gas, daycare expenses, the higher tuition cost at the 4-years not to mention the fact that with small children at home, any emergencies would have found me at least an hour away from home. At the very least, it would have lengthened the time it took me to get my degree and at worst, it would have likely caused me to reconsider the idea all together.

The plan to, in essence, eliminate the 2-year campuses is extremely short sighted and typical of repugs who work quite hard to decimate our educational system and remove all opportunity to pull oneself up by the very bootstraps they are so proud of.

Unfortunately, this is just proof that shit floats.

6. I am a 2 year alum
UW Marinette, Class of 2004.

I would not have been able to go to UWSP without the 2-year system.

This is insanity!

Who exactly in the legislature is proposing this change?
