Heads need to roll on this one

This just makes me sick, and most of the time they get away with stuff like this. I generally support the police, but it's the bad apples like these guys who make the rest look bad. And I'm so tired of hearing about the "code of silence" stuff. Pick out the crocked cops and get 'em out of there!

1. That whole few bad apples thing...

I hear it applied to rogue cops, who never get weeded out because of the code of silence.

I hear it applied to bad doctors who never get weeded out because of the code of silence.

I got news for you. Just as it's a crime to witness or know about a crime and not report it, it's a crime to know about stuff like this and not speak out against it if you know the truth or evidence that can put someone who commited a crime away. And given the weight and gravity of certain professions it makes it even WORSE to not report it.

6. Philosophically speaking you are correct
but in reality the right thing doesn't always get done.

Put yourself in a police officer's position. If you snitch, the best that could happen is your law enforcement career is over and you have no means to support your family. Worst case, you end up with a bullet in the back of your head.

2. Agree - I cannot bear to read this
Milwaukee has a long history of this kind of crap. I have higer hopes for Heggerty than for any of our other past police leaders for handling this. Still, it will be difficult to change the racist, thuggish culture of that police department.

4. Would indictments been made if McGee(sp?) hadn't threatened the city?
I'm not saying I agree with McGee's threats of boycotting businesses
but after little apparent movement, things sure happened once he did.

Spurious correlation, maybe, maybe not.

5. The wheels were already in motion
long before McGee started his grandstanding.

The word is Hegerty hasn't started her investigation yet so it would not compromise any evidence collected by the DA's office. Once the DA filed charges, Haggerty would begin the internal investigation.

I agreee with elfin. I think Hegerty is a person of integrity and is willing to put a handle on this stuff.
