4. Gizmo, explain to me...
why requiring voters to show ID is a bad thing.

As I read your original post, you are saying that "if voters have to show IDs, Democrats will lose Wisconsin."

Would reducing one kind of voter fraud really cost the Party the state?

The Pagan Preacher
I don't turn the other cheek.

5. There's plenty of discussion on this in the Wisconsin forum re voter ID
mark414's excellent article appears here
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=186x5248

gizmo's most recent voter ID discussion here
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=186x4998

and more discussion on voting issues started by gizmo here
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=186x4808

And I found these rather quickly. I'm sure I missed one or two. Plus, you can always go to http://www.thewheelerreport.com for articles, legislative links and information on political issues like voter ID if you need to brush up on what both sides are saying.

6. Because minorities
which we need to win.Often times have no IDs and are very distrusting of government so they won't go and obtain the id.This is the repugs plan, not just in wi all over the country. It's part of the grand plan.

8. agree gizmo - this is a national issue being pushed state by state
I'm from Washington State.
In WA, a right wing group that is funded by national conservative organizations like Walton Foundation (Walmart money) is pushing people to go to the Election Reform Task Group meetings to advocate for this.
I posted about that here:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=203x329874
and someone else posted a pdf which shows the Republican Policy Committee is supporting this.
It is moving forward in New Mexico and Mississippi and there now tere's a new post in 2004 Election Results and Discussion saying it is being proposed in California, too.
When I started looking into this issue, I stumbled across an old article from the last time this was fought in WI that I found interesting.
Here's the link for it: http://www.legis.state.wi.us/senate/sen04/news/articles/art2001-24.htm

We need to oppose this strongly in each of our states.

10. Done,
but we will have to be prepared for this if it does pass, we'll have to work hard to make sure everybodies id's are up to date and that everyone got one....but if they are charging the fee for them that was discussed, I don't know how we can help with that....
