Nasty weather check-in
Hope everyone else is OK -- family, pets, property. It's been a hell of a weekend.

The nastiest of the nasty weather missed us (the sirens were going off, but the cell hit just to the north) here in Waukesha.

4. Hope everyone weathered it well
I saw the tornado warnings around Madison last night and sent good thoughts your way. Up here in the middle of the state we had mild t-storms and cold showers all weekend long. It didn't get warm enough for tornados.

Here's hoping for better weather. :toast: I've got to stand outside for 5 hours late this afternoon and tonight for a regional track meet. It would be nice if the rain stayed away and it at least warmed up another 10 degrees by then.

5. Lots of nasty weather all around us
but we just got lots of rain here in 'Tosa.

We are getting waterlogged, though. The creeks and rivers are really high, and I don't know how much more rain they can hold.

Since most of Waukesah county has been paved over, the water has nowhere to go but into the Menominee river and it flows thru Tosa and the city much higher and faster and more dangerous than it should be. Just ask the folks who used to live near Hart Park where the 100 year flood came two years in a row and their whole neighborhood is now gone...

6. And development continues in Waukesha County, unabated
...lots of high-end housing on enormous lots keep coming. We've got problems with the groundwater (radium, water table is falling, lawn chemicals leaching in, etc.) and the developers don't care.

And because of the groundwater problems, the city is thinking of requiring pick-up of grass clippings -- to keep lawn chemicals out of the water supply. (I do not use lawn chemicals, and I mulch my clippings -- would I now have to bag them and pay more taxes for pickup?)

The Fox River spilled its banks last night, too -- so far, no major damage, but it's creeping up on a few older homes. I live far enough away from the river that I'm not at risk, thankfully. The water that seeps into my basement every time it rains is because my house is old (1885 --- waayyy pre-sprawl, and I wouldn't have it any other way).

7. We actually have some sunshine here right now!
though it looks like the storms are on the Iowa/WI border right now, and on their way. :eyes:

We were out fixing a fence last night when the sirens went off (can't hear them unless we're outside anyway...), but all we got was a bit of rain. My garden is sure growing, though! If they don't rot, the bean plants will be taking over soon (like Little Shop of Horrors!!!).

Both of my kids were up north for the weekend. Our son was at our place near Spooner - in our little log cabin with no electricity or water, and our daughter was at a horse show near Barron. Both came home frozen and soaked, but didn't get blown away. That was a relief.

I guess I'll run out and feed the horses before the next storm hits.
