14. I lived there for years before I moved to Madison
Drove a taxi for City Vet, lived in most of the low-rent places east of the river, and a few west of it. The worst was probably Sydney Hi -- stayed there for about 6 months.

I used to love to go to Romano's Roman Coin on Brady at 6am after a night shift for 40 cent 'short' drafts. Is The Island restaurant still open? If so, did they finally find someone who knows who to cook eggs?

Ya, hey!

Nasty man who owned it, too!!

You would NOT believe the smells in that place. Not just the rotting building itself, but also with the Thai restaurant downstairs + the Ambrosia Chocolate factory across the street all mixed in at once...:puke:

That place has caught on fire at least 3 times, and they tore down half of it to build the freeway ramp. And yet it still stood. It's an evil building, I tell you. Evil!

30. Coleman/Stevens Point checking in.
Moving out of the red (thank the gods) back into the blue that is Stevens Point on Sunday.

It's going to be hell, hauling all my shit up to the third floor, though.

Then I have to check in, assemble my loft, my new leather chair that I got for christmas, my CD/DVD rack, hokk my computer up to the network and make sure all the neccesary antivirus and security protocols are up to date, throw my clothes in the dresser, then pick up my minifridge the next day, then deposit all the leftover money from financial aid into my checking account, get my computer upgraded, maybe try to find Sid Meier's Pirates! (I may have to get it special ordered or have to go to Wausau to find it.) Then off to a certian establishment near Copps to peruse their selection and perhaps purchase a certian type of movie.

There's a street there named after an ancient relative of mine. They ran the first telephone switchboard up there way, way back. I have a cool old picture of them standing in front of the patch panel with those big old handlebar moustaches (except for the women, who'd apparently shaved that day).

136. It's quiet
I moved from busy, edgy Capitol Hill in Seattle to a cabin in the woods. I estimate that perhaps 20,000 people lived within a mile from me. Here there are less than a dozen within a mile from me.

I love having real weather again. I lived for 20 years in Mpls so I know Winter. Seattle weather is boring.

I moved to Seattle in 93 to work for Microsoft, had a great time, and am now putting down roots here.

I was in Cumberland a few years ago. There is a vintage car repair shop whenyou pull inot town coming from Rice lake. It is in an old dealership. The whole lot and showroom were full of 40's-60's cars, mostly big-finned 50's cars. I freaked out when I saw it.

:hi: RL (he let me know about thread - work with him!)

Stop talking about getting old - you geezers! I'm old enough to be your big sister!

My daughter who lives here in Meno Falls also is a DUer too (Cyndee_Lou_Who) - but I am proud to say all three of my adult kids are dems - all three hate dubya. Son & his family are out in a blue state of Oregon, the other daughter currently is in Wrigleyville, although she move a lot.

Now my grandson who is in 8th grade here in Meno Falls has been taking stuff to school to discuss politics with one of his teachers/advisors - his favorite to talk about is all the "bushisms" - he laughs so hard at some of the quotes of dubya's!

Hope to come Sunday to meet up! RL - please remind me!

150. Feet are finally recovered
It was a month before she was sound and took two additional farrier visits to fix it. I'm not going back to where she was. The opening the stall door and running full-tilt to the pasture scenario is not acceptable anymore. The day I met her blaze coming down the driveway at my car at 5:15 a.m. pretty much crashed that deal for me.

Any suggestions? I have one place in mind, but it's new ownership/management and I'm wondering how their good plans now will change when they see how much work it is. Another place seemed nice but was going to charge extra to hand-lead her to the pasture and insisted on a one-year lease.
