Walker Donor Kicks off Recall Early
http://www.startribune.com/local/133261953.html

MADISON, Wis. - Wisconsin elections officials received paperwork Friday to recall Republican Gov. Scott Walker, but in a surprise move, it was filed by a donor to Walker's gubernatorial campaign and not one of his opponents.

Democrats cried foul, saying the donor filed the paperwork so that Walker could begin raising unlimited political donations. The money can be used only for certain things, such as a recall election.

"The only reason this was filed was to open the dirty rain shower of unlimited corporate cash," Graeme Zielinski, a spokesman with the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, told The Capital Times.

Democrats have been vowing to recall the governor since he introduced legislation eliminating most of public workers' union rights. Public employee unions traditionally have been big supporters of Democratic candidates. The Wisconsin Democratic Party has said it plans to start its effort to recall Walker on Nov. 15.
...

Wow, I did not expect this. It catches the recall planners off guard and knocks a good 11 days off the time to get signatures.

1. This won't hurt our recall
(Cross-posted from my reply in the latest breaking thread)

These people won't gather any signatures and file them. There can be more than one recall campaign, as happened in at least one of the senate districts last spring, but ours will be the one that turns in the signatures and generates the recall. Our 60 days will start when WE file OUR paperwork on November 15.

The only thing they accomplish, as the article says, is to let Walker start accepting donations.

2. I did.

But after this year, I expect every dirty trick in the book.

Edited to add that it doesn't knock any time off the recall collection window. We still file our own paperwork for recall on the 15th and still have 60 days from that day to collect signatures.

All this does is open up the unlimited fundraising window.

After this, I'll expect to see recall papers filed as a matter of course so every puke can raise unlimited funds for 60 days. Heck, they'll probably find a whole bevy of goons to continually file so that the unlimited window stays open their whole term.

Walker recall gets off to unexpected start with individual petition filing today

(UPDATED 4:49 p.m.) A Muskego man today filed the first official petition to recall Gov. Scott Walker at the office of the Government Accountability Board, a move that allows the governor to begin collecting unlimited campaign contributions over a week earlier than most had expected.

David Brandt dropped off the paperwork with the GAB just after 2 p.m. today, reports Jessica Arp of WISC-TV. On the registration Brandt explained that he was making the move to "fulfill my friend's last request." Today is the first day a recall petition could legally be filed.
