I hear the TeaBaggers are out getting signatures to re-call three Dem WI Senators. What is being
done on our side to fight this? I heard this from a clip on this site by a Fox News reporter. He said that was why the TeaBaggers were not counter-demonstrating this weekend.

1. Don't worry, That's just an excuse to save face.
The teabaggers aren't here because their handlers realized last saturday that they looked weak and anemic when outnumbered 500 to 1. Plus, it's cold outside. The teabaggers talk is tough, but the 'baggers themselves are about as tough as wet toilet paper.

Seriously though, why would the Kochs pay $$ to bus in teabaggers when it just made them look ridiculous last Saturday and would have looked even weaker today? Much better to save the dough and just circulate a story: "We really have a million-billion-gajillion supprters, you just can't see them because they're, uhm, getting petitions...yeah! That's the ticket!"

2. Yeah, but are any TeaBaggers in fact out doing re-call petitions on what they think are three vul-
nerable WI Dem state senators? Is anyone checking on this? If so, what will be done to counter it?

3. They have the same rights to do it. You can't "counter" it,
you can only vote against the Republican incumbent if you live in their district.

Just because you are not hearing anything does not mean it is not happening.

4. Yes, there are recalls moving ahead against 3 dems.
Edited on Sun Feb-27-11 07:33 PM by HereSince1628
Any voter can file the documents...it involves some formal recognition that the recall is underway because the recall has time limits to obtain the proper number of signatures--which vary depending on the number of voters in the appropriate election by district.

7. The way to counter it is to support your Dem senator
IF they manage to get enough signatures within the time allowed, there will be an election and the Dem senator will need lots of help during the very short campaign period.

9. Statement by the GAB
Statement on Recall Committee Registrations

Date: February 22, 2011

The Government Accountability Board has received campaign registration statements for the recall of eight Wisconsin State Senators, filed by American Recall Coalition in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The districts and Senators are:

• District 4 – Senator Lena Taylor
• District 6 – Senator Spencer Coggs
• District 12 – Senator Jim Holperin
• District 16 – Senator Mark Miller
• District 22 – Senator Robert Wirch
• District 24 – Senator Julie Lassa
• District 26 – Senator Fred Risser
• District 30 – Senator Dave Hansen

The registrations were filed electronically between February 18 and 21. American Recall Coalition must file paper copies of the registration statements. Those registration statements also must contain the names and signatures of one qualified elector from each of the Senate districts, something the initial electronic registrations did not contain.

Attached below are the "draft" registrations by American Recall Coalition. Once the group files the appropriate signed paper copies, they will be listed in the Campaign Finance Information System.

http://gab.wi.gov/node/1610

As of today I don't see them listed on the financial filing list. Perhaps they did not realize they would have to disclose where their money comes from.

11. In very few of those seats do they even stand a chance

Not saying we shouldn't get out and support the Dems if they succeed in getting the phenomenal number of sigs required. I've just got too much work to do to get worked up about it until that happens.

6. There was a meeting yesterday about Alberta Darling recall
More than 100 people were there. They are organizing on Facebook and coordinating with unions and Democratic sources. I suspect a recall committee will file with the GAB before long, then it will be time to gather signatures. Check in here at the group's site:
http://www.facebook.com/recalldarling

Darling's district covers the North Shore suburbs of Milwaukee and parts of Ozaukee and Washington counties.

8. Fun With Tea-Bagging
This reminds me of a hilarious I did with my local republican/teaparty political leaders. I confronted them about the president being born in the USA after debunking all of their other conspiracy theories. It's a pretty funny youtube series. Fun With Tea-Bagging.

10. Handy chart analyzing the state senate districts
For each district it shows the margin by which the last election was won, when the term expires, and the results in the last two presidential elections.
