POST HERE: SE-WI businesses with Walker and Johnson signs on display...
I'm astounded by the number of businesses that feel emboldened this election season to post huge, dinosaur-sized signs for Walker, Johnson and assorted minor Rape-Publicans at their establishments. So, given that these doom merchants believe in the free market system, let the market speak!

• Call, email or write them and let them know you'll never do business with them.

• Visit their establishments with a large group of folks in Barrett and Feingold apparel.

• Find your own creative - but safe and legal - ways to protest these bozos.

Here's my starter list. Be sure to add any new ones you spot to this thread:

2. Contact 'em anyway. Let 'em know you'll...
...not patronize them in the future, and you'll pass the word to your many progressive friends in the area.

4. signs
Edited on Wed Oct-13-10 08:45 AM by Sabien
I don't recall seeing so many business owners take sides in an election before.

Another thing, take note of how many vacant lots or pieces of real estate that are up for sale that have Walker and Johnson signs.

It seems that the Wisconsin Realtors Association (big backers of all things Republican) is encouraging brokers to place them there.

6. That may be illegal
In my jurisdiction at least, the owner of the property is the only one who can authorize placement of a sign. You can't just put them up anywhere. Not sure about other places. (I don't understand at all why a business would turn off half of its potential customers by putting up political signs. At the owner's personal home maybe, but not at the business location.)

8. more thoughts on signs
I suppose it could be coincidental…but it's a theory based on my anecdotal observations from my car window as I travel around the state.

It reminds me of things I saw during the presidential campaign of 2008. I recall seeing many dirt piles, berms on the side of the interstates, and seemingly empty lots that were endorsing McCain-Palin - and Mark Green for Governor before that.

Another thing I have noticed is the size of the signs is going up. Many of those things are huge! Not to mention the many anti-Obama and anti-Feingold billboards along HWY 41. I heard on the radio that they were paid for by an anonymous Oshkosh Businessman or a group of Oshkosh Businessmen. I wonder who paid for them? Has it ever been made public?

Things that make you go hmmm.

16. The signs on that stretch of road are terrible....
...not knowing who paid for them is worse. Johnson has countless HUGE signs here; guess he can afford them.

As for the most respected man in my community: Russ.

25. Huge Ron Johnson signs everywhere
It's like a plague of big green Johnson signs along Highway 100, particularly as you get into Hales Corners and south into Franklin.

Also, the corridor of I-43 northbound in the area of the Marquette Interchange and just south have been plastered with giant anonymous and "private Wisconsin individual" conservative billboards. Some of them are just sickening.

12. This place is encrusted in Pubbie signs...
There must be something like 30 or 40 signs sticking out of this place:

Moline Jewelry
7530 West Lincoln Avenue
Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53219
(414) 543-4206

Here are a few other offenders:

Midwest Rail & Dismantling Inc
4777 W Lincoln Ave
Milwaukee, WI 53219-1696
(414) 672-4244

Hockey Locker
2002 W Howard Ave
Milwaukee, WI 53221-1932
(414) 325-7827

Jen's Beverage Center
4312 W Howard Ave
Greenfield, WI 53220-2104
(414) 541-7330
(Surprisingly, this place only has signs for Sebring and other down-ticket Rape-Publicans. No J & W.)

17. It might be worth going in and talking to the owner
if you have been happy with the place in the past. Ask if they are actually endorsing the Republican. I have known of businesses that seemed to think other people were allowed to put signs outside their premises. Some campaigns tend to stick them in various places seemingly at will.

And there are several other Republican state candidates outside.

Sadly, it's them which makes me very very sad because their pizza and garlic bread are AMAZING. :(

They had this location, Glendale and Brookfield. Now I believe each is independent. Oh right, 84th and Greenfield is the West Allis one. Oh, and Wales has one, too.

20. I'd like to add that
just because a company advertises on the Mic or other liberal station doesn't mean the company owners are liberals, or even nice people.

PM me if you want specifics - Madison area contractor.

(note that Ron Johnson has ads running on the Mic, too)

23. ugh
they were running pretty frequently for a while - for two or three weeks, I think. Then last week I noticed that Russ had ads running - presumably in response. Too bad for him to spend the money preaching to the choir, but he couldn't just leave Johnson's ads unanswered on his home turf. I will be glad to have this election over, with Russ still in his Senate seat!

28. Some Fox Valley businesses unabaashed in campaign support
APPLETON — National corporations have come under fire for concealing contributions to political groups this year, but some Fox Valley business owners are proudly aligning their companies with political campaigns.

And they have the oversized yard signs to prove it.

Yeatman said he is ready for complaints about the signs.

"My comment to that is, 'Well, you can go somewhere else,'" he said. "I don't have a problem with their views. Why should they have a problem with mine?"

Jimbo: Well buddy, I will take my money and go somewhere else.
