Former Congressional Candidate Marc Trager Dead
Suicide, always a tragedy. Not a Dem, but I have lost a relative to suicide, and it's devastating.

1. How sad that he didn't get treatment.
Former 8th District candidate Marc Trager's apparent suicide blamed on depression, anxiety

Just two weeks after dropping out of the 8th Congressional District race for health reasons, Dr. Marc Trager is dead, the apparent victim of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Just hours after his death, his family made a statement, through their pastor, Troy Murphy of Green Bay Community Church, in which they blamed the suicide on depression and anxiety that Trager had been dealing with over the past several weeks.

Trager, 64, was pronounced dead at his home in Howard after Brown County sheriff's deputies responded to a call there around noon Tuesday. Nothing about the incident pointed to anything other than a self-inflicted shooting, but investigators continued to probe and gather evidence Tuesday afternoon as part of standard procedure in such incidents, Chief Deputy John Gossage said.

Trager, a retired radiologist, hoped to win the Republican nod to run in November against Steve Kagen, D-Appleton. However, on June 15, Trager called a news conference to announce that health issues were forcing him out of the race. He declined to elaborate but expressed sorrow at "letting down a lot of people" by dropping from the race.

Trager's opponents, including Kagen, made public statements offering condolences to Trager's family. In its public statement, the family expressed hope that Trager's death would cause people to "take seriously the effects of depression."
