U.S. Sen. Feingold: Statement on Pres. Obama's visit to Wisconsin to discuss health care

“I am very pleased President Obama chose Wisconsin for his first town hall meeting to discuss health care reform. He’s doing the right thing by getting out of Washington and engaging directly with Americans who have waited too long for guaranteed, affordable, high-quality health care. I am working with President Obama and my colleagues in Congress to pass legislation that guarantees health care for every American and offers them a choice in coverage, including a strong public option.

“I also appreciate the Obama administration’s recognition of Wisconsin as the national model when it comes to health care delivery. Wisconsin prides itself on delivering high-quality health care at low cost and if the nation were to adopt the Wisconsin model, billions of taxpayer dollars would be saved.”

The Obama administration has recognized Wisconsin’s ability to deliver high-quality health care with significantly lower costs. Yesterday, Senator Feingold led a group of senators from “high efficiency” states – states that spend Medicare dollars efficiently – in writing to the Senate Finance Committee to request that their states are not subject to unnecessary cuts in Medicare reimbursements as Congress develops its health care legislation.
