I hate the Oshkosh Northwestern.

Could have seen this coming from a mile away...they are declining to endorse a presidential candidate this year. They are always in the tank for the rethugs, whole-heartedly endorsing b*shit in '00 and '04. Now when faced with a clearly unpopular and incompetent rethug ticket, they decline to endorse anyone basing their decision off of a "broken political system".

I'm not so much bothered that they refused to endorse Obama, hell I wish they would never make another political endorsement ever again. I'm just downright pissed off at the arguments they use against him. These of course consist of nothing but Faux News talking points. They portray Obama's service in the IL State Senate and US Senate as nothing more than a launching pad for a presidential run. They accuse him of refusing to "release personal documents that would fully illuminate his background." Is their editorial board really the right-wing nut jobs still ridiculously waiting for an original copy of Obama's birth certificate?

None of this should surprise anyone who is even remotely familiar with this sham of a newspaper. What can you really expect from a rag that The Onion founders claim as their inspiration? I just needed to rant and get some thoughts in order before I fire off yet another angry LTTE.

1. I gave up on the Northwestern long ago.

Don't subscribe or read it anymore even though it is the local paper.

It's not just the editorial section that has gone to crap. The consolidation of newspapers in the region under one company has created horrid journalism at all levels. My son and another Oshkosh youth placed at the national wrestling tournament (one being national champ), and, despite being sent pictures and a pre-written article, the Northwestern did not print a word nor respond to my emails asking why they have not written about this achievement.

It's a crappy paper all around. Don't give it your money.

2. That's terrible.

Local news and gossip is all they have left and your son's success is definitely noteworthy and something their readers would expect to be highlighted. Now that I live outside of Oshkosh I just pop on their website periodically to see what is going on back home. There's no way I'd ever give that rag a dime.

3. I think the key to their ineptness

isn't that the didn't run the article (which I do think is stupid) but that they wouldn't even return my emails and try to explain why they made that editorial decision. THAT shows that they are in complete chaos there and have no idea why they do what they do.

4. Wausau Daily Hearld is supporting the repukes too

at least in all the local races except the one that we're going to win by a landslide. They praise Petrowski for his 100% republican voting record and condemn Myska for touting the party line.

5. It's amazing that Wisco has been consistently blue for the past 16 years

considering all the repuke propaganda that is constantly hurled at us. I know there are still many solid red districts here, but do these newspapers really believe that Madison and Milwaukee are solely responsible for our dem-leaning tendencies?
