Yay! I'm employed again!
For any of the folks at the last meetup who heard that I got unceremoniously sacked at the last place, the opportunity I mentioned has finally come through!

You know when you hear the HR person say "Yep, they're in love with you" that you can finally relax and not worry so much about living in your car. This one is more money than Compuwhore too.

Now...we just need to find reprehensor a job. If anybody knows anybody that needs a graphics person, let us know.

3. Congratulations!
Way to go.

At the meetup, you sure came off to me as an eminently capable, productive and creative potential employee.

I'm glad an actual paycheck-writing person (or committee) came to the same conclusion.

Celebration party?

When I put up my response to your good news, I saw a heart at the bottom of my post.

It wasn't there when I posted earlier, today, and I haven't gotten around to donating yet, myself.

No idea where that came from, but thanks, to whomever!

5. Thanks!
Same about you. We writers have to support each other, since we're a literate, incredibly intelligent bunch!

Hopefully, we'll have a big party here at our place in another couple of months when it warms up and we can squeeze more folks in. I still have lots of friends at the other place, plus we have cool neighbors.

I'm hoping we can get a bigger place when we're ready to buy in September so even more folks can fit in for parties when the weather is crummy like this.

:D

10. He he...
me neither!

And the thing that would suck worst is that we'd have to drive near somewhere that had Wi-Fi because I'd get rid of my laptop when they pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

HOW MUCH RESEARCH COULD I GET DONE THAT WAY??! I keed. I was thinking of who might have to babysit all my stuff if we had to get rid of the dog and the cat and move into an efficiency apartment. It's nice not to have to worry quite so much.

:-)

13. I need some of that to rub off on us!
My husband has been out of work 5 months, that is one month of unemployment left and I haven't been able to find anything as I have mostly been a stay at home mom/slightly self employed (I make dolls) for the last four years. I don't understand why two people with Master's degrees (both of us) can't find a job. My husband is 54 and has tons of experience so that is all we can figure. Employers want people they can hire cheap anymore. I have just been out of the market too long, I guess. I have never had this much trouble finding a job. I applied for a library aid job at a local school, they interviewed me but told me I was one of 20 people they selected to interview out of the 90 that applied! I haven't heard back from them. So, our next step is to move back to southern Illinois where we at least have family and the cost of living is much cheaper. Problem is that we are committed to this stupid apartment until June. Moving to Wisconsin was just a disaster for us all the way around. (Sorry to thread crap . . . I am just to upset these days to even think straight.)
P.S. whoever sent me a heart, thanks, I need all the love I can get!

I'm sorry things are so crummy for you. I was beginning to believe the same thing about Wisconsin for us, but I think things are looking up a bit here.

I SO want to work more on my genealogy book (which is why, I, a lifelong Texan, moved here). That requires being where I can do the most research every weekend, visiting cousins, scanning pictures, collecting family stories...that type of thing. I refused to believe that getting fired once was going to doom me forever here.

Sounds like age-ism at work in your case. I hope everything will work out. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Have you tried MilwaukeeJobs.com? Ooooh....I saw the other day at the old Owl Imports Store that just closed in West Allis (about 76th and Greenfield or one of the close by streets) that they were looking for crafty type folks. Looks like they might be getting ready to open a Crafts Mall or something in that location. Worth checking into, maybe?

We are trying to find something around Green Bay at present so we don't have to take our son out of school but may consider anything if something doesn't turn up soon!

16. Yes, milwaukeejobs.com is the best!
and from there you can select the area/county you are now living. Or if you are up for relocating to Milwaukee, better yet.

Unfortunately, being in your fifties may work against you. But all it takes is one open-minded person to appreciate the experience you have to offer. I know it's in the back of my head. I'm almost 42 and better hurry up and find that one good job that can take me to the finish line, otherwise whatever job I have at 45/50 I will be stuck with forever.

19. Thanks, I will check that out!
Yes, his age is, I'm sure, working against him. He had one interview where they actually asked him if he planned to retire in the next couple of years! He went gray in his 30's so that really isn't a fair question! But, we are getting out the hair dye anyway and seeing if that improves his odds.

27. You know...
I met a bunch of REALLY neat people there. My co-workers downtown were awesome. But it was the first real client that I had to work for that made me see what an awful thing consulting is. No rights, no real way of ironing out issues.

Fuck that shit. For as frustrating as it can be at times, I'd rather work for a real company where I have some voice in what happens to me. At Compuwhore, you're a commodity. That's it. Don't like it? Tough. Thus, my new name for them.
