Yesterday, the government of Tanzania literally collapsed!
One should read this article, by Gannett's Terry Anderson, reporting on the Bush visit to in Tanzania.
"...by Terry Anderson - greenbaypressgazette.com
"Almost six months after assuming his post as U.S. ambassador to Tanzania, Mark Green says he is too immersed in the business of overseeing America's interest in that nation and preparing for a visit by President Bush to get involved in partisan politics back home or sulk about his own failed run for governor.
In an interview last week from his office in Dar es Salaam, Green, 47, didn't rule out a return to politics when he returns to the Green Bay area, probably next year.
In the meantime, the former Republican congressman and state legislator from Hobart said he feels honored to be able to serve as the chief U.S. representative to one of America's staunchest African allies.
And he's getting ready to support President Bush, who is making his second visit to Africa Friday through Feb. 21.
"The president will spend the largest part of his African trip here in Tanzania. Tanzania will be the centerpiece of his African trip," Green said.
Green added that he's been given the rare opportunity to see firsthand the implementation of some of the programs he championed in Congress.
"I'm just blessed to have had this exciting chapter open up," he said. "We'll see what the next chapter is, but this is a pretty good place right now." GB Press-Gazette.
A pretty good place?!!
Not by a long shot Green.
"..."I have not yet met a Tanzanian who does not know someone who is HIV-positive or does not know someone who has lost a loved one because of AIDS. It is a cost to every community. It has weakened the generation that would normally be the income-producing leaders in society. It's a huge challenge.""
10-11% of the entire nation is infected, and 16% of the annual deaths are from AIDS and it's related diseases.
That is not a challenge, when 6% of the entire nation dies, every year from the disease.
This is not a challenge....It's a national disaster of epic proportions!
"Pretty Good" does not describe the national scandal that has been ongoing for two years, and hit the fan yesterday.
The Prime Minister was fired, yesterday for corruption, along with two Cabinet ministers. The President then fired the entire Cabinet and has resolved to get to the bottom of the scandal.
The US is up to it's eyeballs in all the scandals. That's 'pretty good"!
The Head of the National bank is charged with stealing $133 Million, and is in a US hospital somewhere, but nobody knows where...even though his US VISA was revoked on Jan 16th.
The US State Dept stated it was not sure, where he is, or if it would deport him back to Tanzania, once he's found.
Great national secuirty job on that one.
3 ounces of shampoo is nothing compared to a diplomatic VISA.
It get's more 'pretty gooder'....
A scandal involving a non-exsitient US (Texas) company, trying to de-fraud the Tanzanian government for power generators. $186 Million.
Homeland Security approved the Richmond Development LLC's deal, as they have to approve all foreign sales after the Dubai ports deal, ...
but Texas has no records of any such business, which eventually traced to a Richmond Printing Company in S. Carolina, which that state has no records of.
Two men, one a Tanzanian and a Pakistani, are listed as the heads of the company. Nobody knows where these two are, either.
The money...that came from Bush's Millenium Challenge Program of 2002.
As a result. ost of Tanzania is without electricity, as the major power source, hydo-electric is all but down, from the three-year drought in Tanzania.
Rebels from the war torn border nations, surrounding Tanzania; Kenya, the Congo, Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda are now raiding Tanzania's parks & preserves to kill game, for food.
Thats where US tourists go for "pretty good' photos of lions and elephants and jackels.
The nation has travel warnings for all manner of crimes, everywhere in Tanzania...but Green says it's 'pretty good'!
Anyway, Bush is going to Tanzania, because it is 'pretty good'; and to tout his great foreign policy. See we spent money on AIDS!
So where is the criminal banker? The scam power plant Texans, Mr Bush?
Bush will facea very angry population, for allowing the power scam to unfold, for providing sanctuary to the bank leader, and for, doing little to address the regional conflicts, like the nation's that surround Tanzania.
He should be met with a 'pretty good' reception.
I suspect he will be in one of his bubbles...the kind where Americans never see him, as he drives through St. Louis. That kind of public appearance.
I'd suggest watching the BCC for news, when he does visit.
OR this website
http://allafrica.com/tanzania/ Side note on Green's political future:
Maybe the next US President should just keep Green over there.
He serves at the pleasure of the President, and whos to say, the next President won't think he's doing such a bang-up job, that he should stay in Tanzania.
Past Presidents have sent many an adversary on those 'pretty good' missions overseas.
Avoiding the collapse of the Tanzanian government, yesterday, is not good when interviewing the US Ambassador.
