State looking for poll workers
http://www.thewheelerreport.com/releases/Feb08/feb7/0207gabpollwkrs.pdf

Wisconsinites interested in working at a polling place on Election Day should call the
clerk of the municipality where they live to volunteer. A list of all municipal clerks is
available on the Government Accountability Board’s website at http://gab.wi.gov.
Statewide voting hours are 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. However, some
municipal clerks have half-day or flexible shifts for poll workers. The rate of
compensation for poll work is set by each municipality.
The duties of a poll worker can include issuing ballots to voters, registering voters,
monitoring voting equipment, explaining how to mark the ballot or use the voting
equipment, assisting voters with disabilities, or counting votes.

High school students 16-17 years old can work the polls also if they have a 3.0 or better grade point average. Sounds like a great civics lesson.

1. Too bad I can't drive up there and work the day. But I don't live in WI right now.

2. I got drafted to work :D
As an Alder I can't ethically be a paid election official but the clerk asked if I would volunteer.
I think its tremendously important to have more young people involved in that part of the process.
In 2004 (when I was an election official in Minnesota) the Republicans had challengers in the polls doing everything they could to challenge voters who "looked" democratic. That day I was doing same day registrations and it was non stop for 10 hours and so very worthwhile. On the flip side, there can be lots of subtle legal things that partisan election officials can do to discourage or misdirect a vote if they are determined to do so. So it behooves us to be involved to make sure that one person-one vote and access to the ballot are not interfered with.
so call your county or city clerk to see if you can still help.
