DU'ers near Rainelle/Rupert/Lewisburg, please read.
Some friends of ours who are in a Morgantown rock band are coming down to Rainelle to play a gig on July 11th at Red Dragon Tattoo. The band includes a guy who, although not gay, is going to be pegged as such by any stupid rednecks in attendance, as well as a young black man who plays drums like a GOD. Needless to say, I am concerned for their well-being in the tiny little town of Rainelle. I spent lots of time there when I was younger (my ex was from there) and the locals, well, they can be kinda narrow-minded. I don't recall seeing many faces of color there, if you get my meaning.

If anyone in that area is interested in going to see a liberal rock band play (as well as providing enough of a friendly crowd to help keep them safe) head down to Rainelle on July 11th, to the Red Dragon Tattoo shop to see "Krytal Saint" play.

Thanks all!

:hi:

1. Now why would a liberal rock band play in
Rainelle? I remember people there getting "upset" when a band played The Pusher. It was that God Damn the Pusher line that got them. I don't think things have changed a whole lot.

2. Bands in small towns.
I grew up in Keyser and 15 years ago my brother and I set up a show for the punk band The Queers from New Hampshire so they could play the local fire hall with some local bands. Even though The Queers showed up to town early wearing leather jackets that read "The Queers are Here" and wore them around town, we still didn't have any problems with any locals. In fact 300 kids showed up and had a great time.

3. Welcome to DU, alrightandy!
It's good to see another West Virginian on the site. We're a contentious group, but this is a great place to learn and stretch your brain.
