Byrd says he will not run again
when is his term up? Who will we have running? I'm concerned that if we don't have a strong candidate Shellie Moore will be a shoe in and I can't stand that smarmy bitch. What do y'all think?

1. WVA has been moving to the right
but probably one of the democratic members of congress will run--don't you? I know Gov. Wise is out due to his extramarital affair.

8. Two years to repair the damage...
Still possible for him to run for Senate in '06. I figured that this was Byrd's last term when Wise gave up Congress for statewide office.

Wise. Who else has the skillset...statewide, national level experience?

5. I think Byrd is tired............
I really believe this administration has drained what little fight the man has left in him.

I sure do dislike SM Capito as well. I agree with some other posters that WV has taken a definite swing to the right and Capito is the personification of this swing. Also, I like giving folks the benefit of the doubt, but I wonder how far the apple fell from the tree on this one. She seems to have kept her nose clean so far, but lest we forget her father.

6. i agree.
he couldn't possibly be asked to give more than he already has. he will be sorely missed, but i can certainly understand his wanting to spend the rest of his years in peace. we've got to steer this state away from influences of the right. you'd think by now after underwood and now * they'd get a clue!

9. I can't imagine the Senate without Robert C Byrd!
This is a tread that makes me very sad indeed! Robert Byrd has NEVER failed to answer even one my many letters in thirty five years! I don't think this state will ever find a more honest person than Mr. Byrd to serve us in Washington!

10. Mollohan is Byrd's hand picked succesor
If he runs he's a shoo-in. Then Capito won't run.

11. In the primary as well?
"If he runs he's a shoo-in."

Has he had a statewide campaign. Moore-Capito is a non-starter...too much bad family history statewide.

12. I always assumed Caperton would step in
I think Mollahan would have a tough time in a state-wide case. Northern Politicians always have trouble out of their element in WV.

13. I haven't heard this anywhere else...
I'm hoping it isn't true. He seems too shrewd to not run again and then retire and let the (hopefully) Dem. Gov. appoint someone else to finish up. At least that is what I always hoped.
