W.Va.'s top Democrats aid Callaghan fundraising effort
Democratic congressional candidate Mike Callaghan has garnered the support of a few big West Virginia names including Gov. Joe Manchin and U.S. Sens. Robert Byrd and Jay Rockefeller.

Callaghan, who's running against Rep. Shelley Moore Capito in the 2nd District race, will hold two high-profile fundraisers this month.

One is scheduled to take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 12 at the University of Charleston Rotunda.

Manchin, state Senate President Earl Ray Tomblin and House Speaker Bob Kiss, all Democrats, will host that fundraiser.

The other fundraiser is slated for Sept. 21 in Washington, D.C. All four West Virginia congressional Democrats will help host the event -- Sens. Byrd and Rockefeller and Reps. Alan Mollohan and Nick Rahall.

2. I'm afraid you're right but I think Callaghan still has a chance
Manchin in particular should have done more earlier on to help Callaghan.

I've watched pretty closely for polls that show where this race stands but so far have seen none. I believe Republicans funded a poll awhile back but would not release the results, which would seem to indicate that the race was closer than they would have liked.

But as expected, House races in general are looking better for Democrats as we get closer to election day. For example, Election Predictions now projects that we will have a 219 - 216 majority and I believe our momentum will continue. It's starting to look less likely that Callaghan will be able to prevail, but I haven't given up hope.
