I just got off the phone with the Byrd's office in Washington. I told them I was constituent from West Virginia, and that I could not believe that the Senator would vote for Alito given his record against workers - he just came out with the mine safety issue yesterday, how could he possibly vote for him.

The woman told me because I was from West Virginia that she could tell me 90% of the calls were in FAVOR of him.

Please all you 'West Virginia' people - CALL NOW.

She also told me HE HAS NOT DECIDED YET.

CALL CALL CALL CALL CALL CALL CALL

3. The WV Dem party should be hammering
all of their party members with e-mails and phone calls reminding everyone to call Byrd's office.

4. Was Byrd part of the 'astroturfing' Republican call/email campaign?
No Democrats would support Alito. If they did, they wouldn't care enough about him to call.

If he is getting calls FOR Alito. Then Republicans are operating a phone bank somewhere in West Virginia.

This sounds like something they would do.

10. My response to the woman would have been "bull shit".
This is such an easy lie.

Elected officials use it all of the time to do what they want to do or need to do for their own selfish reasons.

11. Not nessesarily. The right wing is good at phone trees and they
all call repeatedly, sometimes change their name/address and call all the State offices and the DC office too.

12. Robert Byrd has destroyed my faith in a fair shake for you and me
with his odd decision. I don't know what to think of this. I've put my faith in Senator Byrd all my life and I guess I was just a fool all these years to have done so! Right now I'm stunned into numbness by this.

I will never vote for a republican period, but I'll leave the box beside Mr Byrd's name blank if he does as he just said he would do. The way I feel about it, repub lite is still repub.

13. I just said the same thing in a separate post
I'm glad to see folks understand that Byrd's mask is finally off.

I, too, supported him even though we occasionally disagreed.

This, however, is well beyond disagreement. This is a fundamental split with my values as an American.

sucking up to big coal, but I kind of understood that. This I do not understand. I feel sick to the very core! Hell I might quit voting, because what's the use? I do hope if Byrd does as he says he will do, that Byrd lives long enough to see with his own eyes the results of the death blow he is about to help the GOP deliver to democracy. This is the saddest day I can remember since the SCOTUS ruled against Al Gore! Did Byrd not see how POLITICAL the SCOTUS was on 12/12/2000? Does Mr Byrd not see how the SCOTUS ruined the country in December of 2000, when for a purely political motive, they nullified the will of the people with a 4 to 5 decision in Bush vs Gore? If not, the man truly is blind.

15. He's shown himself to be a purely political animal
hanging on to power for power's sake. That's the only explanation for his bankruptcy bill vote, his class action vote, his vote to confirm Roberts.

What other reason does he have for staying?

I swallowed a lot of crap for him, thinking that at least he'd be there for us in a constitutional crisis.

He won't be. Byrd represents Byrd. That's it.
