Pharmacy Board reconsiders 'Plan B' proposal
Edited on Thu Jul-20-06 10:48 PM by flamingyouth
Plan would allow denial of medication based on personal beliefs

The state Board of Pharmacy is backing off from a controversial proposal that would allow pharmacists, based on their personal beliefs, to deny filling prescriptions for emergency contraception.

The board endorsed a draft of the proposal last month, but voted unanimously Thursday to reconsider the language at its August meeting.

"They wanted to have more discussion about the draft and decide if they may want to make any changes based on all the feedback they've been receiving," said Steve Saxe, executive director of the board.

The board has received some 2,400 letters and e-mails, most in opposition to its June decision, Saxe said.

1. Good. If they don't want to do their job, don't take the job.
Why are they singeling out Plan B? (rhetorical question, I know the answer, but anyway...) What about antibuse? People just shouldn't drink. Or cholesterol lowering medicine? People should just eat better. I wrote Gregoire and the board and let them have it, hopefully they will not allow this.

2. Must have been the smell
of boiling tar and the sudden shortage of chicken feathers that caused their change of heart.
