So, who else was elected to represent Washington at the Convention?
the Democratic National Convention, that is. I was elected as a delegate alternate from the 8th District on Saturday. Who else is going to Boston?

1. Wow, congrats!
That's very cool.

I went to my county convention, but that was all.

6. Your sig line was part of my campaign speech!
at least, a form of it was ("I am outraged, and I believe that if you are not, you have NOT been paying attention").

2. These are the Kucinich national delegates
1st CD Jessica Becket. She is still in high school and has a brother in Iraq. She is on the debate team, which stood her in good stead speaking for Kucinich at the caucus.

2nd CD Larry A. Kalb. He has been active in many different progressive campaigns and issues. He is on the board of Health Care for All. Most crucially, he is one of the handful of people in our very inexperienced campaign who had a clue about the caucus process worked, and shared this knowledge very effectively.

5th CD Diane M. Schmitz. She is in the grants department at Eastern Washington University, and previously taught college English for six years. She is interested in promoting the progressive side of the Democratic party, and runs a listserv in eastern Washington. She has been supporting Kucinich for a long time, and wants to promote the platform locally and nationally.

6th CD Chris Karnes. He is in his mid 20s, and has been a very hard worker in the campaign from the beginning.

7th CD D'Adre Cunningham. She has been in Seattle for 6 years, and is a public defender. She has worked on organizing in a number of political areas locally, but this is the first time she will be doing something nationally.

7th CD James I. Mullins. He is a professor at UW, and a political neophyte. He has done a lot of work on the campaign, travelling to New Hampshire for visibility work and canvassing. He has personally turned out 20,000 CDs of Kucinich speeches, and distributed most of them.

4. Our district delegation (at least the women)
is very liberal - at least two of us would have been Kucinich delegates had we been able to sway enough others to our side to entitle him to a delegate. We're Kerry delegates, but we'll do our damndest to keep the progressive issues on the table. It'll be nice to caucus with the Kucinich people and the Dean people for a change; all the district-level caucuses split into sub-caucuses for most votes.

5. Thanks!
I was hoping there was another Washington state DU'er going to Boston, but now I'm just hoping there are some other DU'ers, period. I want to do a DU meetup at the Convention.

8. Thanks for the pictures, eridani
I've met several of the folks in the pictures by now. I talked to Jessica quite a bit. Oh lordy, was she pissed at what they did to the younger delegates, though - the parties during the state convention were all 21 and over - even the party the Young Democrats threw was in a bar! So Jessica, being 19, wasn't allowed in either the party the Young Democrats threw Friday night or the party for the National delegates at the Emerald Queen on Saturday. I think that stinks, and she's (rightfully) furious. The least they could have done is to have the parties in something other than a bar or casino, so the younger delegates could at least come in!

Oh well, both parties were kind of a bust anyway - the Young Democrats party was just a bunch of people milling around a crowded bar paying way too much for wine and beer, and the Emerald Queen party had good food and great music, but ended at 11 p.m.
