Question about absentee ballots.
My fiancee and I mailed our absentee ballots in late last week. Is there any way I can check to make sure they were tabulated, and not tossed out due to some alleged "error" in our votes? We double and triple-checked to make sure we jumped through all the requisite hoops correctly, but I'd feel better knowing that Kerry, Gregoire, Murray, et al actually received the votes we gave them. Thanks in advance.

1. we must be in the same state
i made copies of mine at the library but i think they count our absentee ballots after the polls close here. since we only sign the outside part of the envelope i don't think there's any way to see if our actual ballot is counted but i don't see wa having much problems with the absentees.

2. I have another question - did not receive absentee ballot
Edited on Sun Oct-31-04 03:09 PM by fortyfeetunder
The company I work for had a drive for voter registration, and absentee ballot application about six weeks ago. I got a new registration card but no absentee ballot.

I am not particularly concerned because poll workers know me because this was my kid's school I vote at. But this time, wonder if I am going to be challenged at the polls, even if I am loaded to the gills with identification.

7. You can always vote at your precinct
Even if you are registered as an absentee voter. you just need to tell the poll workers that you didn't receive or that you accidentally destroyed your absentee ballot. Then you can vote on the spot. Just make sure you are at your correct voting place. If you are in King County and want to find out, call 206-296-8683 even after hours and by entering your birthdate and address you can find out your polling place.

By all means, Vote!

4. Well, I know that my primary ballot
was counted because when my parents went to the polls, they saw that my name had already been checked off on the voter roll. I don't know if you could call and ask, but on election day you could probably go to your polling place and make sure.

5. Just call your county auditor's office

They record all of the absentees received as they get them, and verify signatures at the same time. They are pretty darned efficient at it, too.

If they haven't received your ballot, ask them for a provisional ballot. In the event the one you mailed does not arrive, they'll use the provisional and count it. (And it will not be opened until the 10th, just in case the mail does arrive)

You will not, however, know if the votes were counted they way you cast them. The secrecy procedures make it impossible for them to discern how any given voter casts their ballot.

6. I can check for you.
I work for th State Democratic Party. We get a list of who has returned their ballots. And if they are targeted voters we keep calling them until they do. Email me your name and county.

8. I would like to make sure my absentee ballot was recorded...
MoveOn came to my apartment yesterday, and I sent in my ballot last Wed., I don't know if MoveOn has access to the status of registered voters being counted or not. I only lurk here and don't have enough posts to PM you. Could you reciprocate?

ask for Kelly, if you don't get me leave your name and address and a phone #. If you mailed your ballot on Wednesday, it should have been received and processed by Monday.

10. Update on absentee ballot...
I went to my local precinct, and lo and behold, no absentee ballot was mailed to me!

The place was relatively quiet so I was able to vote without waiting!
