Police are searching for a woman who has been missing since last night from a Bainbridge Island - Seattle ferry.

The 45-year-old woman is apparently from Bellevue and bought a ticket in Seattle for the 10:55 p.m. Tuesday sailing to Bainbridge. Ferry workers found Lynn Stafford-Yilmaz's purse and keys on an upper deck and her van was left on the ferry.

Sometimes people forget that they drove on and so forth, so abandoned cars are not uncommon. But authorities are worried about this one. Anyone with information can call the State Patrol or 911.

The search for a woman who is missing from a Tuesday night run of the Seattle-Bainbridge ferry was suspended at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday – about 14 hours after 45-year-old Lynn Stafford-Yilmaz of Bellevue was last seen. Ferry workers found Stafford-Yilmaz's purse and keys on an upper deck, and her van was left on the 10:55 p.m. ferry from Seattle.

"We searched for 13 hours and saturated the search area of Bainbridge Island, Colman dock and areas north, south, west and east of those points," Coast Guard Lt. Ron Owens said.

The search was suspended because rescuers found no leads in the search area. The search included a Coast Guard helicopter and crew from Port Angeles and a Coast Guard boat from Seattle.

Seattle police and firefighters, and the Bainbridge marine unit also helped in the search....

1. Update: no foul play, maybe suicide, still open case. Still not found.

Reading varied Stl news sites, all say the same. She hasn't been found, is still an open "missing person" case. She may have committed suicide, left some note. She is just...missing, maybe dead. I feel very sad for her family.

State Patrol: No foul play in woman's disappearance

The State Patrol today said it has found no indication of criminal activity in the January disappearance of a Bellevue woman whose van was found abandoned on a Seattle-Bainbridge ferry.

Lynn Stafford-Yilmaz, 45, disappeared Jan. 13. Her van was found aboard the ferry Puyallup after its 10:55 p.m. sailing from Seattle to Bainbridge Island, and some of her belongings were found on an upper deck.

Stafford-Yilmaz's husband has told his wife's colleagues that based on a note his wife left behind, the family believes she committed suicide. State Patrol officials say the case hasn't been officially labeled a suicide, and remains an open missing-person case.

Earlier, there was speculation that Stafford-Yilmaz may not have actually been on the ferry, but today's announcement said witnesses identified her as a woman who was a passenger aboard the boat. Investigators have found no indication that she got off the ferry on Bainbridge Island or Seattle, according to the State Patrol.

The State Patrol said it completed its investigation into the disappearance of Lynn Stafford-Yilmaz, and that there is "no indication of any criminal activity."

The 45-year-old woman's van was found unattended on a ferry from Seattle to Bainbridge Island on Jan. 13. Ferry workers found Stafford-Yilmaz's purse and other belongings on the ferry's upper deck.

Later that month, in a letter to Bellevue Community College where Stafford-Yilmaz taught English as a second language, her husband said "Evidence indicates that Lynn decided to end her life." Mustafa Yilmaz went on to mention a note his wife left behind but did not disclose what it said.

2. GOOD NEWS: Bike left on ferry, owner is fine

"A bicycle owner says she simply forgot she had brought her bike aboard the Bainbridge-bound ferry Wenatchee when she walked off without it late Wednesday afternoon.

A Washington State Ferries spokeswoman says the Bainbridge woman, whose identity was not disclosed, called on Friday to claim her bike, after reading in a newspaper about the extensive Coast Guard search for the missing owner."

3. I am glad they figured out the bike was simply forgotten. Hoping for a conclusion for Lynn also

How sad to have someone just disappear. Reading varied news items, it looks like she left some sort of note, but it isn't clear that she was going to commit suicide. Investigations have concluded no foul play, but whether or not she killed herself or just went away is unclear.
