There is an effort underway to request that the Seattle City Council consider establishing a city Commission on Disabilities Issues. (This is primarily for Seattle residents, though anyone can feel free to support this proposal...) Please email Nick Licata, Chairman of the Seattle City Council Civil Rights Committee, and cc the other City Councilmembers, to request that he advance the proposal to establish a disabilities issues commission. Additionally, please request that the City Council consider repositioning the budget and staff arrangements of the Seattle Office for Civil Rights to accommodate such a new commission as proposed.
Councilman Licata has set a deadline of Noon on Monday, November 3, 2008, to email him this request.
Feel free to use this portion of this email in blasts out to your listservs for allied organizations to garner support and action.
