Proposed King William Resorvoir & May 4 vote
"The reservoir generally pits environmentalists and three Indian tribes who oppose it against Peninsula localities and business leaders. They've sparred in public hearings and courtrooms."

A very exciting proposition - We can't let this opportunity slip by!
Pass this info along to anyone who can help.

Dear Friends,
I would like to inform you as a private individual on the possibility of electing Newport News & Hampton Council Members who are clearly opposed to the King William Reservoir.
There was a Daily Press article on April 12, 2004, titled "Voters Could Shift Council on Reservoir". I will paste this article at the end. Also, I will give you names, addresses, donation info. All of these candidates need help on election day, Tuesday, May 4, at their various precincts.
Since this article came out, I have heard that at least one candidate who expressed opposition to the KWR has received a personal letter, angry and arrogant in tone, from a NN Waterworks manager, saying that they shouldn't make snap judgements and ought to agree with the Peninsula realtors, homebuilders, that the KW reservoir needs to be built.
I have spoken to the candidates that I recommend, and ask that you consider sending a personal campaign contribution and/or contact them to offer your help. All the suggested candidates are running excellent campaigns.
In Newport News, 4 seats are up, out of 7. Terms are 4 years. The candidates below, in addition, are opposed the the proposed Endview development in the northern part of NN, located entirely on the watershed of the Newport News Lee Hall reservoir, again showing the lack of commitment by present NN City Council to protect its drinking water watershed.
In the North District, Councilwoman Madeline McMillan, is running for reelection, and has an opponent who is in favor of the KWR. She has never had an opponent in her last two council races. Madeline has shown consistent opposition to the KWR, despite being the only member of NN Council to voice opposition.
In the South District, Seat A, Ms. Shaun Brown is running against Vice Mayor Allen, who has supported the KWR. There are 3 candidates for this seat, with Ms. Brown the only one clearly opposed.
In the South District, Seat B (two-year seat, open due to a resignation), Mr. Bernard Robinson is running in a field of 6, and also the only candidate to state decisive opposition to the KWR and Endview.
In Hampton, I wish to suggest the following, based on my knowledge of these candidates' positions on clearly opposing the KWR. These are 4 year seats, and Council Members are elected at large. In Hampton, elected officials consist of Mayor and 6 Council Members.
Mayor: Ross Kearney. He has no opponent. Ross has been serving on City Council for 12 years and has voted against resolutions to support Newport News on the KWR.
Council:
Angela Leary - She almost won a seat 2 years ago, losing by 56 votes to a 3 time incumbant. Has serious campaign with 2 billboards up, professional campaign manager.
Amy Hobbs - Very active in neighborhood groups in Buckroe Area, Hampton
Rudy Langford - He has spoken in public settings against the KWR.
The City of Hampton is a customer of NN Waterworks, yet has nothing to gain from the KWR. The proposed reservoir has been and will continue to cause water rates to increase, and will foster sprawl outside of Hampton, resulting in inner city decay syndroms, such as empty shopping centers and poor school systems.
