NBC's "Today" show to be in Wmsbrg next Wed., Sept. 24
Edited on Thu Sep-18-08 08:33 AM by Duppers

Morning TV personalities Matt Lauer and Al Roker will bring NBC's "Today" show to Williamsburg for a live broadcast next week.

The show will originate in Williamsburg on Wednesday as part of a four-day focus on "battleground states" in this year's presidential election. An NBC spokeswoman said the show will broadcast from the Capitol and Duke of Gloucester Street.

Lauer and Roker will be in town for the broadcast and will be visited by Gov. Timothy M. Kaine and U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor, a Republican who represents the state's 7th District. Luke Russert will do a segment on the youth vote, and Roker will feature "the colonial aspect of Williamsburg."

1. That could be fun.
(However, wouldn't it be nice if they went to Texas instead?)

Hi!

3. Official Campaign Signage... HELP
I was working my shift today at the Williamsburg, VA Campaign for Change office and we were discussing the need for visual Obama support at this event. Our office has been out of bumper stickers and yard signs for weeks (not to mention official campaign signage for rallys) and the request/wait list for these items is pages and pages long.

Does anyone know of any organizations that may have a surplus of official signage they could FedEx to the office? The Republicans will be out in force cramming their "Country First" signs down our throat. We need to have a large presence at this event. We are planning to get together and create some signage prior to the event but it would be nice to have "official" Obama/Biden material as well.

livetohike posted this suggestion:

"Our local Dem. club went to a local printer and printed yard signs because the wait to get them from the Obama campaign was too long. Maybe you could check with the local Dem. club in your area If they buy them in bulk, it isn't too expensive."

Can we get some printed here in Wmsbrg? I'll certainly pitch in a few dollars for one.
Buying in bulk will lessen our cost. I got the idea here:

6. Thanks for the cross post!
... I would just hate to see McCain supporters in VA outnumber us 3 to 1 on national morning television and if they show us up in the art department as well.... hmph .... well 'nuff said.

Long time lurker, first time poster here at DU.

7. I didn't make it there until 7am and all standing room

for about 5 or 6 rows was taken.

I took my 18" round, home-made Obama sign, which was huge Obama logo with 'TRUTH NOT GREED' printed in big letters at the edges. I glued it to a round flat basket of the same diameter for stability and put it on a yd stick. It looked pretty decent, if I say so myself. At least it was unique and eye catching. Took me almost an hr to make it this morning.

It seemed as if there were many more McCain signs than Obama signs. :(

And most all of the Obama signs were home-made.

WHERE ARE OUR PRINTED OBAMA SIGNS?

Matt Lauer stay after the broadcast autographing signs and shaking hands, which I thought was nice. He seemed very friendly.
Poor Al Roker didn't mingle---it seemed as if he could barely walk. Even though he has lost weight over the last couple of yrs, he's still way too heavy.

Anyone catch the broadcast?

9. Hey Duppers!
From what I heard, the Williamsburg Obama office wanted people to make their own signs, to emphasize the grassroots support.

10. I was there at 5:40am.......
... still 5 or 6 people back from the line. apart from the McSame faction of 5 directly behind me, I thought the Dems had a pretty good showing.

Still, it's important to keep moving forward. Everyone needs to volunteer as much as possible over the next 5 weeks. Especially voter registration since the deadline is fast approaching! Grab a friend, grab a clipboard and get out there! Yes We Can!
